What Can You Do With DBeaver Community's Database Tools?
DBeaver Community is a free, open-source database management tool for working with SQL databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and Apache family databases. It is recommended for personal projects, and it covers the core day-to-day work of exploring data, writing queries, maintaining databases, and exporting results. If you need NoSQL support, cloud database connections, or enterprise authentication, those capabilities sit in the commercial DBeaver PRO version instead.
Query and edit data
The two central tools are the SQL Editor and the Data Editor.
- SQL Editor lets you write and run SQL statements against a connected database.
- Data Editor lets you view and modify table data directly.
- AI Chat and the @ai command are included as AI-assisted features in the Community version. The release notes for DBeaver 26.2.1 mention added support for AI subscriptions for OpenAI, a warning about possible AI mistakes in AI Chat, reorganized AI preferences, and that AI-generated SQL scripts are executed like regular scripts.
A practical example: connect to a PostgreSQL database, use the SQL Editor to run a join across two tables, review the result set, then use the Data Editor to correct a mis-entered value in a single row without writing an UPDATE statement by hand.
Manage tasks and maintain databases
Beyond querying, the Community version includes:
- Task management for organizing database work.
- Database maintenance tools for routine upkeep.
- Metadata management for inspecting and working with database structure.
These are the features that turn a query window into a working environment for ongoing projects rather than one-off lookups.
Export results to your local disk
Query result export to the local disk is supported in the Community version. This is the natural end of many workflows: run a query, get the rows you need, and save them as a file on your machine.
Note the boundary here — exporting results to cloud storage is listed as a PRO capability, not a Community one.
What the Community version does not include
The comparison on the site separates Community from PRO clearly. If your work depends on any of the following, Community will not cover it:
| Capability | Community | PRO |
|---|---|---|
| Relational databases (MySQL, SQL Server, Postgres, and others) | Basic support | Advanced support |
| NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, CouchDB, and others) | Not listed | Supported |
| Cloud databases (Redshift, Google BigQuery, Oracle Cloud, and others) | Not listed | Supported |
| ODBC driver connections | Not listed | Supported |
| Cloud storage export (Amazon S3, Azure Blob, GCP) | Not listed | Supported |
| Advanced security (master password, credential encryption) | Not listed | Supported |
| Enterprise authentication (SSO, SSL, Kerberos) | Not listed | Supported |
| Secret management (AWS, Vault, CyberArk) | Not listed | Supported |
| Visual Query Builder, performance visual tools, Task Scheduler | Not listed | Supported |
| Ongoing technical support | Not listed | Supported |
Community does include username/password authentication and SSH tunnels, so basic secure connectivity for personal or small-team use is covered.
How to decide
Choose DBeaver Community if your work centers on relational SQL databases, you are running personal projects, and you are comfortable with basic authentication and SSH tunnels. Choose DBeaver PRO if you need NoSQL or cloud database support, ODBC connections, enterprise-grade authentication and secret management, visual query building, or vendor technical support.
The current Community release referenced on the site is DBeaver 26.2.1 (September 21st, 2026).
