What Are the Draft and Scoring Rules for Apex Fantasy Football Money Leagues?

Updated

Apex runs season-long fantasy football money leagues with two draft formats (live and email), PPR scoring, and 12-team leagues as the standard size. Draft rounds vary by league type — 18 rounds for classic one-year, dynasty, superflex, and deep leagues, 23 rounds for dynasty, and 14 rounds for playoff leagues. Lineup rules also shift by format: superflex leagues let you start a quarterback in a flex spot, deep leagues start two flexes, and dynamic leagues remove kicker and defense while starting two flexes.

Draft formats and timers

Apex offers two ways to draft, and the timer you pick determines how fast the draft moves:

  • Live drafts — 90-second timers. Best if you want a single sitting and quick decisions.
  • Email drafts — 8-hour timers. Best if your league spans time zones or you want to trade picks over days.

Auction leagues use live drafts with a $200 bidding budget and 18 total players per roster.

League types and their draft settings

Scoring and lineup rules

Scoring is PPR across the site's leagues. That means receptions carry point value, which raises the floor for pass-catching running backs and slot receivers relative to standard scoring.

Lineup construction is where leagues differ most:

  • Superflex leagues — you can start a quarterback in a flex position, so up to two QBs can be in your lineup.
  • Deep leagues — two flex spots instead of one, deepening the pool of startable players.
  • Dynamic leagues — no kicker and no defense, plus two flexes; a superflex version also exists.
  • Best Ball leagues — total points decide the winner, with no in-season lineup management. Dynasty format only.
  • Playoff leagues — a draft-only format where total points wins; no weekly management decisions.

How to verify the rules for your specific league

Because lineup and roster rules change by format, confirm the settings before you pay:

  1. Pick the league type, price, and draft time that fits you.
  2. Open the league's rules page and check the starting lineup requirements, timer, and round count.
  3. Draft your players.
  4. Manage your team through the season (except Best Ball and playoff formats, which run on total points).

If a rule detail matters to your strategy — say, whether your superflex league allows two QBs or how many flex spots a deep league starts — read the league-specific rules rather than assuming the site-wide defaults apply.
