What Awards, Events, and Projects Does FGCCT Organize?
Updated
The Federated Garden Clubs of CT (FGCCT) runs three main categories of activity: an awards program with multiple categories and deadlines, a calendar of events that includes tours, the Connecticut Symposium, and regional roundtables, and ongoing projects such as the President's Project, Youth, Blue Star Memorial, Healing Therapy & Senior Gardening, and World Gardening. Clubs participate by submitting award entries by category deadline, registering for events, and taking on project work through the federation's member clubs.
Awards
FGCCT's awards program is organized so clubs can find the right category and deadline before submitting an entry.
- Awards by Category – entries are grouped by subject area, so a club matches its project to the relevant category first.
- Awards by Deadline – the same awards are also listed by submission deadline, which is the practical way to work backward from a due date.
- Awards Manual – the reference document for rules and requirements.
- Award Recipients – a record of past winners.
The awards cycle culminates in the Annual Awards Meeting and Luncheon. The 97th Annual Awards Meeting and Luncheon is scheduled for October 21, 2026 at the Aqua Turf Club, with registration information available through the federation.
Events
FGCCT maintains an events calendar plus several recurring event types:
| Event | What it is |
|---|---|
| Events Calendar | The central listing of all federation events |
| Tours | Organized garden and site tours |
| Connecticut Symposium | A state-level gathering |
| New England Annual Meeting | Regional meeting with New England garden clubs |
| Annual Meeting | FGCCT's own annual business meeting |
| Awards Meeting | The awards luncheon described above |
| Club Officers' Day | Programming aimed at club officers |
Regional Roundtables are a newer recurring format: monthly 1.5-hour Zoom workshops hosted by FGCCT Board Members. Each session takes a "deep dive" into one topic — Membership, Club Finances, Fundraising, Events, Flower Shows, Awards, Social Media, Youth, and more. Dates, locations, and registration are posted through the federation.
Projects
FGCCT's project list covers civic, youth, and international gardening work:
- President's Project – the FGCCT President for 2025–2027 invites members to review the current President's Project, with a schedule and further information available.
- Youth – youth education programming.
- Blue Star Memorial – the memorial highway marker program.
- Healing Therapy & Senior Gardening – gardening activity directed at therapeutic and senior settings.
- World Gardening – international gardening outreach.
How Clubs Participate
- For awards – identify the category that fits the project, confirm the deadline for that category, check the Awards Manual for requirements, then submit the entry. Recipients are recognized at the Annual Awards Meeting.
- For events – use the Events Calendar to find the event, then register through the listed link. Roundtables require separate registration for each monthly Zoom session.
- For projects – projects are carried out through member clubs rather than by individual sign-up. A club officer or project chair coordinates participation.
Where to Start
If you are new to FGCCT, the most useful entry points are the Events Calendar for upcoming dates, Awards by Deadline if you have a project ready to submit, and Club Corner for event scheduling, featured clubs, field trips, and how-to guidance. Clubs needing help with membership, finances, or publicity can use the roundtables and the Tips for Clubs and How to Publicize Your Event resources.
