How RackRat's Deal Score Works
Updated
RackRat's deal score is the ranking metric behind its eBay rackmount server listings: each listing gets a score, and the site sorts results by that score so the strongest deals appear first. It's most useful when you're scanning many similar servers and want a shortlist before comparing specs yourself. RackRat states that its affiliate commission does not influence rankings or scores, so the ordering reflects the score rather than paid placement.
What the score is for
RackRat describes itself as an eBay rackmount server deal finder that ranks listings by its deal score "so you can build your lab for less." In practice, the score is a sorting device, not a price:
- It orders listings relative to each other, so a higher score means RackRat considers that listing a better deal than lower-scored ones.
- It works on the listing set RackRat has indexed, not on all of eBay.
- It's a starting point for filtering, not a substitute for checking the actual specs and total cost.
How to use it
- Open the RackRat deals page. Listings appear ranked by score.
- Use Sort By Score to keep that ordering, or switch sorting if you'd rather rank by price.
- Narrow the list with the Filters panel before you compare: Country/Region, CPU Platform / Class, CPU Model, Brand / Model, RAM (GB), Storage (TB), Form Factor, Rack Units, Drive Bays, Power Supplies, Rails, and Shipping / Pickup.
- Turn on Pickup/Variable Shipping Only if shipping cost or local pickup matters to you.
- Use Display Options to toggle Images, Descriptions, and Detected Specs, so you can see the parsed specs alongside each listing.
- Open the eBay listing itself to confirm condition, exact configuration, and shipping before deciding.
Expected result: a filtered, score-ordered shortlist where the top entries are the ones RackRat rates highest among the listings that match your criteria.
What the score does not tell you
The score is a relative ranking, so treat it as a filter rather than a verdict:
- A high score doesn't guarantee the server fits your workload — check CPU class, RAM, drive bays, and rack units against what you actually need.
- Detected specs are parsed from listings; verify them on the eBay page, since listings can be incomplete or mislabeled.
- Shipping, pickup terms, and seller condition notes sit outside the score, so two similarly scored listings can differ a lot in landed cost.
- RackRat may earn a commission from qualifying purchases, but per its disclosure this doesn't change rankings or scores.
