What Filters Can I Use on RackRat to Find Rackmount Server Deals?

Updated

RackRat's filter panel lets you narrow eBay rackmount server listings by price, country/region, CPU platform and model, brand/model, RAM, storage, form factor, rack units, drive bays, power supplies, rails, and shipping or pickup method. You can also restrict results to pickup-only or variable-shipping listings. Use the filters when you already know your target specs (for example, a 2U chassis with at least 128 GB RAM) and want the deal score to rank only matching listings.

How to open and apply filters

  1. Open the RackRat deals page. The listings appear with a Filters control at the top.
  2. Expand Filters to reveal the filter groups.
  3. Set the criteria you care about (see the groups below). Each group can be expanded or collapsed.
  4. Apply the filters. The listing set updates to show only matching servers, still ranked by RackRat's deal score.
  5. Adjust or clear filters to widen the result set if you get too few matches.

The page also has Display Options — Images, Descriptions, and Detected Specs — which change how each listing is presented rather than which listings appear.

Choosing filters for a typical goal

  • Cheapest usable lab node: set Price to your ceiling, then filter by Rack Units and RAM (GB) to match your rack and workload.
  • Specific platform build: use CPU Platform / Class plus CPU Model, then narrow by Brand / Model.
  • Storage-heavy build: start with Drive Bays and Storage (TB), then check Form Factor and Rack Units for physical fit.
  • Local pickup only: enable Pickup/Variable Shipping Only and set Country/Region to your area.
  • Complete system (no missing parts): filter on Rails and Power Supplies so you don't buy a chassis that needs extra hardware.

Things to watch

  • The Affiliate disclosure on the page states RackRat may earn a commission from qualifying purchases and that this does not influence rankings or scores — so filtering and sorting stay independent of commission.
  • Detected specs shown in listings are labeled as detected; verify critical specs (RAM, storage, PSU, rails) against the actual listing before buying.
  • If a filter combination returns nothing, relax the least important criterion first (often CPU Model or exact RAM) rather than removing several at once.
