Which Games and Protocols Does playit.gg Support?

Updated

playit.gg works with two categories of traffic: games and apps that have built-in support, and anything else you can route through a custom TCP, UDP, TCP+UDP, SSH, or HTTPs tunnel. If your game is on the built-in list, setup is mostly automatic. If it isn't, you can still connect it by pointing the game at a custom tunnel — but some UDP-based setups require Premium.

Built-in game support

playit.gg ships with ready-made support for these titles, so you don't have to figure out ports or protocols yourself:

UDP is called out separately on the site and requires Playit Premium.

Custom protocol tunnels

For games and services that aren't on the built-in list, playit.gg exposes raw tunnel types you can configure manually:

  • TCP — for most game servers and services that run over TCP.
  • UDP — for UDP-only traffic; requires Premium.
  • TCP+UDP — for games that need both protocols on the same endpoint.
  • SSH — for remote shell access to the host machine.
  • HTTPs — for web-based services and dashboards.

This means the practical answer to "does playit.gg support my game?" is: if it communicates over TCP, UDP, or HTTP, you can tunnel it. Built-in support just removes the manual configuration step.

How to decide which path you need

  1. Check the built-in list first. If your game is there, use the built-in option — it's the least error-prone route.
  2. If it's not listed, identify the protocol. Look at your game server's documentation or config to see whether it uses TCP, UDP, or both.
  3. Pick the matching custom tunnel. TCP for TCP-only, TCP+UDP for mixed, UDP for UDP-only.
  4. Expect a Premium requirement for UDP. The site states UDP requires Playit Premium, so budget for that if your game is UDP-based.
  5. Verify by connecting. Only you run the agent; your players connect to the address playit.gg gives you. If they can join, the tunnel is working.

What this means for your setup

  • Free tier covers the common cases. Minecraft Java, Bedrock, Palworld, Terraria, Factorio, Valheim, and the other listed games are available without paying.
  • UDP is the main gate. If your game relies on UDP and isn't handled by a built-in free option, you'll need Premium (listed at $3/month on the site).
  • Custom tunnels are the fallback for everything else. SSH and HTTPs extend playit.gg beyond gaming, so you can expose a shell or a web service through the same agent.

If you're unsure which protocol your server uses, the safest starting point is a built-in game option if one exists; otherwise, try TCP+UDP, since it covers servers that need both.
