Why Won't Croonify Synchronize Lyrics for My Song?

Updated

Croonify synchronizes lyrics by detecting the singing voice in your recording, so the most common reason synchronization fails is that the file you uploaded has no vocals in it. If you uploaded an instrumental, a backing track, or a karaoke version, Croonify will tell you it "does not appear to have anyone singing in it" and ask whether you want to choose another recording. The fix is to upload a version of the song that actually contains singing, then paste the full lyrics.

The vocal requirement, explained

Croonify's own guidance is explicit: vocals are required, and "there MUST be singing for the lyrics to synchronize." The tool aligns your pasted lyrics to the sung performance, so with nothing being sung there is nothing to align to.

This is why uploading a karaoke or instrumental version backfires. Those files are exactly the ones with the vocals removed, which is the opposite of what the synchronizer needs.

What happens when no vocals are detected

When Croonify can't find a singing voice, it shows a message that the recording doesn't appear to have anyone singing, explains that singing is required for synchronization, and offers a choice to continue or pick another recording. If you continue with a vocal-free file, the lyrics won't line up the way you want.

Fixes to try, in order

  1. Upload a recording that contains singing. Use the original track or any version where a voice is clearly present. Croonify's page notes that the iTunes Music store still works well for downloading DRM-free licensed music if you need a source.
  2. Confirm the format is supported. Croonify accepts audio or video files such as .mp3, .m4a, and .mp4. If your file is in another format, convert it first.
  3. Paste the complete lyrics. Croonify warns: "Do NOT forget lyrics that repeat." If a chorus appears three times in the song, it needs to appear three times in the lyrics you paste. Missing repeated sections will throw off the alignment.
  4. Add the title and artist. These fields are part of the setup, and Croonify offers an AZLyrics search to help you find the correct lyrics text to paste.
  5. Re-check the file if the warning appears again. If Croonify still says no one is singing, you've likely uploaded another vocal-free version. Swap in a different recording.

Quick diagnosis

Symptom Likely cause What to do
"No one singing" warning Instrumental, backing track, or karaoke file Upload a version with vocals
Lyrics drift or skip Repeated lines missing from pasted lyrics Paste the full lyrics, including every repeat
Upload rejected Unsupported file type Convert to .mp3, .m4a, .mp4, or another accepted format
Sync never starts No vocals detected in the recording Choose a different recording

The bottom line

Synchronization depends on two things you control: a recording with real singing in it, and a complete set of lyrics that includes every repeated section. Get both right and Croonify can produce a synchronized karaoke video in minutes; miss either one and the sync won't work as expected.
