How do I find information for my role on the UCT website?
Updated
Use the "I am a" role selector on the UCT homepage (uct.ac.za). Pick the option that matches you — prospective student, student, staff member, researcher, past student, or visitor — and the page shows a short list of links chosen for that role. It is the fastest starting point for most needs, because it replaces hunting through menus with a single dropdown.
How the role selector works
The selector has two parts:
- "I am a" — choose your role.
- "I want" — choose a task from the list that appears for that role.
After you make both choices, the site takes you to the matching page. If you only pick a role, you still get the tailored list of links to browse.
What each role can reach
| Role | Examples of links available |
|---|---|
| Prospective student | Bursaries and loans, information about UCT, courses and programmes, how to apply, fees, undergraduate funding, postgraduate funding, student housing |
| Student | Bursaries and loans, UCT Shuttle timetables, undergraduate and postgraduate online resources, myUCT (email), administrative forms, graduation information, Student Wellness, Disability Service, Educare Centre, PeopleSoft, funding information |
| Staff member | Online resources, administrative forms, UCT Shuttle timetables, Outlook Web Access, Disability Service, Educare Centre, occupational health and safety, HR, Finance Operations, procurement and payment |
| Researcher | Research Support Hub, eRA System login |
| Past student | Academic transcript |
| Visitor | Visiting UCT |
Practical notes
- Start here for most tasks. Whether you need fees, a timetable, or a transcript, the role selector usually gets you to the right page in two clicks.
- "I want" lists change with the role. The same task (for example, funding information) appears under more than one role, but the links differ — undergraduate and postgraduate funding for students, for instance.
- Key dates are worth checking directly. Undergraduate applications closed on 31 July; postgraduate applications close on 30 September. Postgraduate applications for 2027 programmes are open.
- Some links need a login. myUCT, PeopleSoft, Outlook Web Access, and the eRA System are account-based services; the selector links you to them but does not grant access.
If the selector does not cover what you need, the same homepage carries current notices — for example, the THE World Academic Summit, spring graduation, and application deadlines — which often point to the relevant section.
