What media formats and equipment does Karaoke Eternal support?

Updated

Karaoke Eternal plays MP3+G (MP3 audio with CDG lyrics, including zipped files) and MP4 videos, and it can also render music-synced visualizations with automatic lyrics background removal. You do not need microphones connected to the software, because the player only outputs music — your audio setup can be as simple or as complex as you want.

Supported media formats

Format What it is Notes
MP3+G MP3 audio paired with CDG lyric graphics Zipped files are supported
MP4 Video files Played directly in the browser-based player
Visualizations Music-synced graphics Includes automatic lyrics background removal

If your library is built from CDG rips or MP4 karaoke videos, both fit the supported formats. Zipped MP3+G files don't need to be unpacked first.

Equipment requirements

The key point is that microphones are not required by Karaoke Eternal itself. The player outputs music only, so the app doesn't need to receive or process a mic signal. That means:

  • Audio output — the system running the Player needs to send audio (and video, for MP4) to whatever handles the room's sound and display.
  • Microphones — handled entirely outside the software, through your own mixer, amplifier, or PA. You can keep it minimal or build a full setup.
  • Client devices — guests use their phone's browser to find and queue songs; the Player runs fullscreen on the system handling audio/video for the room.

Because mic routing is separate, you're free to choose any audio configuration without worrying about whether Karaoke Eternal can see your microphones.

What this means in practice

  • If you already have CDG or MP4 karaoke files, they're in supported formats — no conversion needed for MP3+G (zipped or not) or MP4.
  • If you want a mic-free setup, you can run the Player purely as a music and lyrics output and let a separate mixer handle vocals.
  • If you want a full karaoke rig, add microphones, a mixer, and amplification on your own; the software side stays the same.
