How to Check for Changes to Mass Times or Parish Office Hours at Our Lady of Peace & Blessed Dominic Barberi

Updated

The parish's published timetable is a baseline, not a guarantee. The website itself states: "Please always check the latest newsletter due to changes in weekly timetable for Mass." So the reliable method is: read the current newsletter or the "Recent Posts" section of olop.org.uk before you travel, and treat any listed Mass or office hour as provisional until you confirm it for that specific week.

Why the schedule changes

The parish lists several recurring reasons a Mass or office hour can move, shorten, or disappear:

  • Weddings and other booked liturgies — e.g. Friday 18th September: Holy Mass moved to 8.15am, no Adoration, and no evening Mass because of a wedding and a Centenary Mass at English Martyrs Church.
  • Parish pilgrimages — e.g. no weekday Mass from Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th September, and the parish office closed from Tuesday 22nd to Tuesday 29th September.
  • Liturgical seasons — during Lent and Advent, Wednesday Mass moves to 6.30am and Friday Adoration ends at 6.00pm, followed by Stations of the Cross at 6.00pm and Holy Mass.
  • Feast days — e.g. Tuesday 29th September, the Feast of the Holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel & Raphael, has Holy Mass at 6.30pm.
  • Summer breaks — Adoration pauses over summer and resumes on a stated date (Friday 25th September 2026 in the published notice), with a reduced Adoration slot on Mondays and Fridays from 5.00pm to 6.00pm in the meantime.

The baseline timetable

Day Mass / Devotion
Sunday 8.30am, 11.00am, 5.00pm
Monday 6.30pm
Tuesday 8.00am
Wednesday 8.00am (6.30am during Lent & Advent)
Friday 6.30pm
Friday Adoration 11.00am–6.30pm (11.00am–6.00pm during Lent)
Reconciliation Mondays, Fridays and Holy Days of Obligation, 5.30pm–6.30pm, or by private appointment with Fr Stan

How to confirm a specific day

  1. Go to olop.org.uk and open the Recent Posts section, where temporary schedule updates are posted.
  2. Read the latest newsletter — the parish explicitly directs you here for weekly timetable changes.
  3. Check the date against the exceptions above: a wedding, pilgrimage, feast day, or seasonal change may override the baseline.
  4. If you need Reconciliation outside the listed window, the parish notes it is available "by private appointment with Fr Stan" — contact the parish directly rather than assuming a slot.
  5. For office business, avoid pilgrimage closure periods; the office was closed for a full week around the September pilgrimage.

Common pitfalls

  • Assuming the Sunday times never move. Sunday Masses can be reassigned to a different celebrant or combined with another church's liturgy, as happened with the Centenary Mass.
  • Arriving for Adoration during a break. Adoration has defined seasonal and summer gaps, with a reduced 5.00pm–6.00pm slot on Mondays and Fridays when the main Friday session is suspended.
  • Turning up for weekday Mass during a pilgrimage. The parish cancelled weekday Masses for three days in the example above.
  • Expecting the office to be open. It closed for eight days across the pilgrimage period.

If the newsletter and Recent Posts disagree, trust the most recently dated notice, and call the parish before a journey where a cancelled Mass would leave you without an alternative.
