Why Is Composerize Not Working or Showing No Output?
Updated
Composerize is a browser-based app, so the most common reason it shows nothing is that JavaScript isn't running. The site itself states: "You need to enable JavaScript to run this app." If scripts are blocked, the page loads but the converter never initializes, and no output appears. The second most common cause is the input itself — an incomplete or unsupported docker run command can produce empty or failed results.
Check JavaScript first
Composerize runs entirely in your browser. There is no server-side fallback, so if JavaScript is disabled or blocked, the interface and conversion both fail silently.
- Confirm JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings.
- Disable script blockers for composerize.com (uBlock Origin, NoScript, Ghostery, and similar extensions can block the app).
- Check privacy modes and settings that restrict scripts, including strict tracking-protection modes.
- If you use a corporate network or managed browser, a policy may block scripts on the site.
After changing any of these, reload the page. If the app is working, the input and output areas should appear and respond as you type.
Verify the input command
The converter expects a complete, valid docker run command. Problems with the input are a frequent cause of no output or odd results.
- Start with
docker runand include the image name. - Make sure the command isn't truncated — a missing closing quote or an unfinished line can break parsing.
- Complex shell syntax (pipes, command substitution, multi-line continuations with
\, environment variable expansion) may not convert cleanly. - Unsupported or unusual flags can cause the conversion to fail or drop options.
A good test is to paste a minimal command first, such as docker run -d -p 8080:80 nginx, and confirm output appears. Then add your real flags back in to find the one causing trouble.
Try a different browser or environment
If JavaScript is enabled and the command looks valid but you still get nothing:
- Try another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) to rule out a browser-specific issue.
- Test in a private/incognito window with extensions disabled.
- Try a different network if a proxy or firewall may be interfering.
- Disable extensions one at a time to identify a conflicting one.
What "working" looks like
When Composerize is functioning, you paste a docker run command and it produces an equivalent docker-compose.yml service definition. If you see the page but no output area at all, that points to a JavaScript/loading problem. If you see the output area but it stays empty after entering a command, that points to an input or parsing problem.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Blank page, no interface | JavaScript disabled or blocked | Enable JS, disable blockers, reload |
| Interface loads, no output | Invalid or incomplete command | Test with a minimal command, check quotes |
| Output missing some flags | Unsupported or complex syntax | Simplify the command, add flags back gradually |
| Works in one browser, not another | Extension or browser setting | Disable extensions, try incognito |
If none of these resolve it, the issue may be a temporary problem with the site itself — wait and retry, or use a local alternative such as running the conversion tool offline.
