How to Register an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Indoor Hockey with Otago Hockey

Updated

Otago Hockey Association (OHA) collects Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Indoor Hockey through a news post on its website, oha.org.nz. If you or your child want to try indoor hockey, the EOI is the first step: the association uses it to gauge demand before confirming teams, grades, or a season. The site's home page shows an "EOI's for Indoor Hockey" news item, so the current entry point is the news section rather than a dedicated registration page.

What the EOI is for

The notice on the OHA home page asks two questions directly:

  • Are you keen to have a go at Indoor Hockey?
  • Is your child keen to play Indoor?

That wording tells you the EOI is aimed at both adult/senior players and parents registering interest on behalf of children. It is an interest-gathering step, not a confirmed team entry — the association needs enough responses before it can commit to running indoor hockey.

How to submit your interest

  1. Go to oha.org.nz.
  2. Find the news item titled "EOI's for Indoor Hockey" on the home page (it appears in the news feed with a relative date, e.g. "5 days ago").
  3. Open the item and read the full post — the "Read More" link leads to the complete notice.
  4. Follow the contact or submission instructions given in that post. OHA's site does not publish a standalone online EOI form in the home page content, so the post itself is where the current instructions live.

Because the news feed rotates, the EOI post will eventually drop off the home page. If you can't see it, check the news archive or contact the association directly through the details on the site.

What happens after you register interest

The EOI does not by itself place you or your child in a team. Expect the association to follow up once it has enough expressions of interest — that follow-up is where selection, age grades, venue, and timing would be confirmed. The home page also shows OHA running representative programmes such as the Otago U16 Alpiners regional tournament teams, which indicates the association organises competitive pathways alongside social or introductory hockey. Indoor hockey EOIs sit at the entry end of that spectrum.

Common sticking points

  • The post ages out of the feed. News items are dated relatively ("4 days ago", "31 days ago"), so a current EOI can be several clicks away from the home page within weeks. Search the site or use the news listing.
  • No published form or fee. The home page content does not state a cost, deadline, or online payment step for indoor hockey EOIs. OHA does publish a separate "Payment Details" page under About Us, but that is a general payment reference — don't assume it applies to the EOI stage.
  • Parent vs. player. If you're registering for a child, make clear in your message who the player is, their age, and any prior hockey experience, since the notice explicitly addresses parents.

If the EOI window has closed

Contact Otago Hockey Association directly and ask to be added to the indoor hockey interest list for the next intake. The association's contact details are on oha.org.nz, and expressing interest outside an open EOI still tells them there is demand — which is exactly what the EOI process is designed to measure.
