Where to Find Linux Tutorials on Linux.org

Updated

Linux.org hosts a dedicated Linux Tutorials section split into three levels — Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced — and you can reach it from the main navigation menu. Use it if you want structured, written walkthroughs rather than scattered forum threads. If you're looking for a specific topic, the site's search (with a "Search titles only" option) is faster than browsing.

The Tutorials section

The navigation menu lists Linux Tutorials with three sub-entries:

  • Beginner Tutorials — for first steps and foundational topics
  • Intermediate Tutorials — for users past the basics
  • Advanced Tutorials — for deeper, more specialized material

Pick the level that matches your current comfort with Linux, then browse the list of articles.

What kind of content is there

Tutorials are written as multi-part article series rather than one-off tips. Examples visible on the site include:

Series Topic
Python Series GUI programming, e.g. "Canvas Widget – Part 2"
Proxmox VE Series Virtualization, e.g. "Windows Virtual Machine"
PocketBeagle 2 Hardware setup, imaging, and internet access
Arduino Uno Q Hardware experiments, e.g. LED Matrix
Orange Pi 6 Plus Installing Pimox on ARM

Because these run as numbered parts, check earlier installments if a later one assumes prior setup.

Finding a specific tutorial

  1. Go to the Search box in the site header.
  2. Enter your topic (for example, "Proxmox" or "Python").
  3. If you get too many forum results, enable Search titles only to narrow it to article titles.
  4. Open the matching tutorial and follow the series from its first part.

Browsing the Tutorials menu works well when you don't yet know what you want to learn; search works better when you have a target topic.

Where tutorials sit relative to the rest of the site

Tutorials are one part of Linux.org alongside the forums, "What's new," featured content, latest activity, and Linux news. The homepage surfaces recent items from all of these, so a tutorial may appear next to forum posts. If you land on a forum thread while looking for a tutorial, switch to the Tutorials menu or search titles only.

Practical notes

  • The site notes that JavaScript is disabled in your browser can degrade the experience; enable it if menus or search misbehave.
  • An out-of-date browser warning may appear — updating is recommended for correct rendering.
  • Credits are currently disabled while the site addresses a compatibility issue after a forum software upgrade, so don't rely on that feature.
  • There is also an IRC channel: irc.linux.org, port 6697, TLS, main channel #linux, if you prefer live help over reading.

Start at the Beginner Tutorials level if you're new, or jump straight to search if you already know the series you need.
