How to Download and Upload Presets on PresetShare

Updated

PresetShare (presetshare.com) is a free preset exchange for VST synthesizers. You can browse or search its library and download presets without an account, but uploading your own presets requires signing in. The site supports joining via Google, VK, or email, and its interface is available in EN, RU, DE, and BR.

Downloading Presets

Downloading is the low-friction part of the site — no sign-in is needed to browse the library.

  1. Open presetshare.com and go to the Library.
  2. Narrow the list using the three main filters:
    • Synthesizers — e.g. Vital (10,839 presets), Serum (4,713), Serum 2 (2,820), Sytrus (688), Surge (647), Phase Plant (594).
    • Genres — e.g. Dubstep (2,754), Drum and Bass (2,595), Ambient (1,489), House (1,347), Synthwave (1,170).
    • Sound types — e.g. Bass (7,708), Lead (3,792), Keys (2,118), Pad (1,746), Pluck (1,605).
  3. Each preset entry shows its synth, genre, and sound type (for example, "Lazer Lead — Vital > Dubstep > Lead"), plus upload date, views, and downloads.
  4. Open the preset and download the file, then load it in the matching synthesizer.

If you don't have a specific target, the New presets and Random Presets sections surface recent and random entries, which is a quick way to sample what the community is producing.

Matching the Preset to Your Synth

The synth tag matters more than anything else on the listing. A Vital preset will not load in Serum, and a Serum 2 preset may not open in the original Serum. Check the synth name in the entry before downloading, especially for less common targets like Sytrus, Surge, Phase Plant, Sylenth1, Massive, or FM8.

Uploading Presets

Uploading requires an account. The site's join options are Google, VK, or email — pick whichever you already use, then sign in.

  1. Sign in with Google, VK, or email.
  2. Use the Upload Preset action.
  3. Tag the preset accurately: synthesizer, genre, and sound type. These tags are what other users filter by, so a correct synth tag is what makes your preset findable and loadable.
  4. Publish it to the library.

Once published, your preset appears in the library listings and can be browsed, filtered, and downloaded by others. The platform also runs Quests — themed calls for presets, such as a bass or lead for a specific genre — which is a way to get your uploads noticed rather than dropping them into the general pool.

What Makes an Upload Useful

  • Correct synth tag — the single most important field, since a mismatched tag makes the preset unusable for anyone who downloads it.
  • Specific genre and sound type — "Dubstep > Bass" is more discoverable than "Other > Miscellaneous."
  • A descriptive name — entries like "V3G - bass 029" or "Violent_Gelato_Van" are harder to judge than "Garden Party (Trumpet)."

What the Numbers Tell You

The library is large and unevenly distributed:

Area Notable figures
Free presets 23,415
Users 423,590
Authors 1,609
Downloads 18,296,771
Most-represented synths Vital, Serum, Serum 2, Sytrus, Surge
Largest genres Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Ambient, House
Largest sound types Bass, Lead, Keys, Pad

Two things follow from this. First, if you use Vital or Serum, you will almost always find something — those two synths alone account for the majority of the library. Second, if you use a niche synth such as Absynth (5 presets), Retrologue (4), or Twin 3 (9), expect a thin selection and plan to browse by synth rather than by genre.

Common Snags

  • Downloading without checking the synth. The most frequent wasted download — confirm the synth tag first.
  • Expecting an account-free upload. Browsing and downloading are open; uploading is not.
  • Ignoring version differences. Serum and Serum 2 are listed separately, so a preset tagged for one may not load in the other.
  • Sparse results for niche synths. Filter by synthesizer instead of genre when your synth has a small catalog.

The site is free to use and does not require payment to download presets. Sign-in is only needed for uploading and community participation.
