How to Browse and Participate in the MFGG Community
Updated
MFGG (Mario Fan Games Galaxy) is organized around a main site with separate resource sections, a forum, a wiki, and a Hall of Fame. You can browse most content without an account, but commenting, submitting work, and posting in the forums require registering and logging in. The main navigation lists Games, Hacks, Sprites, Tutorials, Sounds, and Misc, plus Updates, Archive, BPS Patcher, Community, Forums, Wiki, and Hall of Fame.
Start with the main navigation
The site's navigation is the fastest way to reach what you want:
- Games — complete fan games and demos, tagged by genre (for example Platform or Comedy).
- Hacks — ROM hacks and related projects.
- Sprites — sprite sheets and graphics, often labeled by style (for example SMW-style or NES-style).
- Tutorials — guides for making your own content.
- Sounds and Misc — audio and other assets.
- Updates — the running news feed of new and updated submissions.
- Archive — older updates and past content.
- BPS Patcher — a tool page for applying BPS patches.
- Community, Forums, Wiki, Hall of Fame — discussion, documentation, and standout works.
If you just want to see what's new, open Updates. Each entry shows the submission name, its category in brackets, and the creator, with a "Click to see updated" link to the full list.
Find a specific game, sprite, or sound
Use Search for a direct lookup, or Advanced Search when you need to narrow by category, creator, or other fields. Type a title, character, or creator name and review the results by section.
A practical example: if you want Super Mario World-style tilesets, search a term like "SMW tileset" and filter the results toward the Sprites section rather than Games. If you only remember the creator, search their username instead of the title.
Register and log in
To go beyond browsing, create an account:
- Open Login from the navigation.
- Choose the registration option (the page shows "Not Registered?").
- Complete sign-up, then log in.
If you already have an account but forgot the password, the login page includes a "I lost my password" recovery link.
Once logged in you can:
- Comment on updates and submissions. The Updates feed shows a comment count and a "Leave Comment" option.
- Submit content to the relevant section (games, sprites, sounds, and so on).
- Post in the Forums and join community events.
Use the Forums, Wiki, and Hall of Fame
- Forums — the main place for discussion, project threads, and event announcements. Some activities, like a community group photo, are coordinated through a forum thread and the Discord, with submission deadlines posted there.
- Wiki — reference material about games, characters, and community history.
- Hall of Fame — a curated look at notable works, useful when you want the highlights rather than the full archive.
Watch for time-limited events
Community activities can have short windows. In one update, a group-photo project collected member artwork with submissions open only through July 31st, and the organizer noted the notice was short for people who only check the main site rather than the forums or Discord. If you want to take part in events, check the Forums and Discord alongside the Updates feed so you don't miss a deadline.
