How to Find and Sign Up for Upcoming AI Hackathons on LabLab
Updated
LabLab's homepage lists every upcoming AI hackathon with its dates, format, and partner, and you sign up from each event's own page. The catch is that registration routes differ by event: some run entirely on LabLab, while others require you to create an account with the partner (for example, AMD) before you can enter. If you want the shortest path, start at the "Upcoming AI Hackathons" section on lablab.ai, open the event that fits your schedule, and follow that page's specific sign-up instructions.
Where the events are listed
The homepage section Upcoming AI Hackathons is the entry point. Each listing shows a status label (LIVE, Online, or Hybrid), a date range, and a participant count, so you can judge at a glance whether an event is currently running, fully remote, or has an on-site phase.
From the current listings:
| Event | Format | Dates | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lablab x AMD AI Academy Challenge | Live, online | Sep 1 – Dec 1 | 3-month AMD-powered developer growth and community program; open to individual participants only |
| WeAreDevelopers x BAND present: Dark Factory (hackathon edition) | Online | Sep 26 – Oct 6 | Global virtual hackathon; build a software factory in BAND Desktop |
| AssemblyAI – Voice Agent Hackathon | Online | Sep 1 – 30 | Month-long challenge; $10,000 prize pool ($5k cash + $5k in AssemblyAI credits) |
| AMD Developer Hackathon: ACT III | Hybrid | Oct 12 – 18 | Online build Oct 12–17; on-site phase Oct 17–18 |
Clicking any listing opens its dedicated page, which is where the actual participation details live.
How to sign up, event by event
There is no single universal registration button. The sign-up path depends on who is running the event.
Events hosted directly on LabLab (such as the AssemblyAI Voice Agent Hackathon): register through the event page. Registration for that one stays open for the whole build window, so you can join on day one or pick it up halfway through and still submit.
Events run with a partner platform (such as AMD Developer Hackathon: ACT III): the page tells you to click Sign up with AMD. If you are not already a member of the AMD AI Developer Program (ADP), you need to create an account first. Expect this extra step for any event tied to a partner's developer program.
Events with a bonus for signing up (such as Dark Factory): signing up can make you eligible for a free ticket to the associated conference — in that case, WeAreDevelopers World Congress North America in San Jose. Read the event page to see what the sign-up unlocks.
In every case, the sequence is the same: open the event page → read the participation instructions → complete the registration route that page specifies → confirm you can access the build environment before the build window opens.
Checking eligibility and cost
The homepage states that all events are free to attend, and the hackathons are open to AI and tech professionals as well as anyone with a passion for the technology. Individual events can add their own constraints — the AMD AI Academy Challenge, for instance, is open to individual participants only, so teams are not an option there. Always confirm the eligibility line on the specific event page rather than assuming the general rule applies.
Staying ahead of new events
New hackathons appear on the homepage as they are announced, and the site points to its Discord community and AI builder community as the places to hear about them. If you want to catch an event before its build window starts, checking the Upcoming list periodically or joining the Discord is more reliable than waiting for a listing to go live.
Common snags
- Assuming one registration covers everything. Partner-run events often need a separate account on the partner's developer program.
- Missing the format. A "Hybrid" label means part of the event is on-site; check whether travel is expected before committing.
- Joining too late for team events. Some events allow late entry (the AssemblyAI challenge explicitly does), but others may not — read the event page's timing rules.
- Skipping the build environment setup. Confirm you can actually access the required platform or tools before the build window opens, not on the first day.
