Where to Find AHC Submission Guidelines and Editorial Board Information
Updated
The Acta Histochemica et Cytochemica (AHC) website provides direct navigation to Instructions to Authors, Submission, and Editorial Board pages. These are the three pages you need before submitting a manuscript: the first covers formatting and fees, the second is the submission entry point, and the third lists the people handling peer review. All three are reachable from the site's main navigation menu, which appears in the header and repeats in the footer.
The three pages you need
| Page | What it gives you | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Instructions to Authors | Formatting rules, APC and page charge details, submission requirements | Before you prepare or upload a manuscript |
| Submission | The entry point for sending a manuscript to the journal | When your manuscript is ready |
| Editorial Board | The list of editors handling the journal | To check editorial scope or identify handling editors |
The site also links to Browse Articles, where published content is hosted on J-STAGE (the Japanese science and technology information aggregator). The "Latest Articles" and "Best Articles" sections on the homepage are also powered by J-STAGE, so the full text of published papers lives there rather than on the AHC site itself.
What to check in Instructions to Authors before submitting
The Instructions to Authors page is where the journal's current requirements are stated. Based on the site's Important Notice, two cost items are confirmed:
- Article Processing Charge (APC), effective for submissions from June 1, 2024:
- Standard rate: JPY 100,000
- Members of the Japan Society of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry (JSHC): JPY 50,000
- Page charges are charged in addition to the APC, at JPY 5,000 per page.
The notice directs readers to Instructions to Authors "for more details," so treat that page as the authoritative source for the current fee structure and any conditions attached to the member rate. If you are not a JSHC member, the standard APC applies; if you are, confirm on the Instructions page how membership is verified at submission.
How the navigation is organized
The AHC site uses a compact menu that repeats in both the header and footer:
- Browse Articles — published content, hosted on J-STAGE
- Instructions to Authors — author guidelines and fee details
- Submission — manuscript submission
- Editorial Board — editorial team listing
- Contact — email to the Editorial Office
Because the same links appear in the footer, you can reach any of these pages from the bottom of the homepage without scrolling back up.
Practical notes
- Read Instructions to Authors first. Formatting and fee requirements are stated there, and the APC notice explicitly defers to that page for details. Preparing a manuscript before checking it risks rework.
- Budget for both charges. The APC and the per-page charge are separate; a 10-page article at the standard rate implies JPY 100,000 plus JPY 50,000 in page charges, before any other costs the Instructions page may list.
- Use the Editorial Board page for scope questions. If you are unsure whether your histochemistry or cytochemistry work fits the journal, the board listing shows the areas the journal covers.
- Expect J-STAGE for published content. The homepage's Latest Articles and Best Articles sections are J-STAGE-powered, and each entry carries a DOI (for example,
https://doi.org/10.1267/ahc.26-00018). The journal's Online ISSN is 1347-5800.
For current impact metrics, the site lists a Journal Impact Factor of 1.9 (2025) and a 5-year impact factor of 2.3.
