What to Wear and Age Requirements for Airsoft at Ambush Activities

Updated

Ambush Activities runs airsoft on over 100 acres of woodland between Portsmouth and Southampton, and the two rules that trip people up most are age and clothing. The minimum age is 8 for the venue's family-friendly airsoft, while the rental, skirmish and Joint Ops sessions listed on the site are marked 11+. Separately, all under-18s must wear long sleeves and long trousers — no exceptions, and no shorts or short-sleeved shirts, whatever the weather.

Age requirements by session type

The site lists ages against each game type, and they don't all match:

Session Listed age Format
Airsoft Rental 11+ 3–7 hours, kit provided
Airsoft Skirmish 11+ 7 hours, own kit
Junior Airsoft Not stated on the card Family-friendly, designed for younger players
Joint Ops (Skirmish & Rental) 11+ 3–7.5 hours, mixed

The venue as a whole says it offers days out "to anyone over 8," and Junior Airsoft is the product aimed at that younger end. If your child is 8–10, Junior Airsoft is the session to book rather than a standard rental slot. If you're unsure which side of the line a specific date falls on, confirm with the venue before paying, since the age shown on a booking page is what staff will check on the day.

What to wear

  • Under-18s: long sleeves and long trousers are mandatory. This is stated on both the Rental and Junior Airsoft listings. It applies to the whole session, not just the start.
  • Over-18s: no equivalent rule is published, but woodland airsoft involves brambles, undergrowth and close-range hits, so covering up is the practical choice regardless.
  • Footwear: the site doesn't specify, but you're moving through 100+ acres of natural woodland, so treat it as you would any rough-terrain outdoor activity.
  • Everything else: for rental and junior players, equipment and protection are included, so you don't need to source a mask, gun or eye protection yourself.

What's included when you rent

Rental packages at Ambush Activities cover the game fee, equipment and protection, plus 1,000 biodegradable BBs per half-day. Junior Airsoft includes the game fee, equipment and protection for rentals, plus a full magazine of biodegradable BBs per game. That means a first-timer can turn up with nothing but compliant clothing and play.

If you already own your kit

Skirmish sessions are for players with their own equipment, and the site advises checking dates, booking online and reviewing rental eligibility before attending — so if you own some but not all of your kit, don't assume you can top up on site. Mixed sessions and private events also run occasionally alongside the weekly Sunday skirmishes.

Practical checklist before you book

  1. Confirm the age band for the exact session and date you want.
  2. For anyone under 18, pack long sleeves and long trousers.
  3. Decide whether you need a rental package or are bringing your own kit.
  4. If bringing your own kit to a skirmish, check rental eligibility first.
  5. Book online — the site directs all bookings through its booking pages rather than turning up.

Prices shown on the site start from £35 per person for Airsoft Rental, £32.50 for Skirmish and Junior Airsoft, and £20 for Joint Ops, but confirm the current rate for your chosen date at the point of booking.
