Where Is Ambush Activities Located and What Are the Game Zones Like?

Updated

Ambush Activities is a woodland airsoft venue in Hampshire, UK, situated between Portsmouth and Southampton. It sits on more than 100 acres of natural woodland and describes itself as one of the largest woodland airsoft venues in the UK, running since 1990. If you're deciding whether it's worth the trip, the key points are the location (south Hampshire, accessible from both cities), the scale (100+ acres of woodland rather than a small purpose-built field), and the style of play (outdoor woodland scenarios rather than indoor or speedball-style arenas).

Location and Setting

  • County: Hampshire, UK
  • Position: Between Portsmouth and Southampton
  • Terrain: Over 100 acres of natural woodland
  • Claimed scale: One of the largest woodland airsoft venues in the UK
  • Operating since: 1990

The venue's own description emphasises "100+ acres of natural woodland to explore with challenging game scenarios." That matters practically: a site this size usually means longer walks between respawn and objectives, more reliance on navigation and teamwork, and games that use the terrain rather than fixed bunkers.

What the Game Zones Are Like

The site presents its games under a "Discover Our Game Zones" section, with its most popular games listed as the main bookable formats rather than as separately named zones. In practice, the "zones" are the woodland areas used across these game types:

Game format Typical duration Ages Notes from the venue
Airsoft Rental 3–7 hours 11+ Game fee, equipment, protection, plus 1,000 biodegradable BBs per half-day
Airsoft Skirmish 7 hours 11+ Weekly Sunday skirmishes for players with their own kit, plus occasional mixed sessions and private events
Junior Airsoft Not stated Younger players (family-friendly) Game fee, equipment, protection, plus a full magazine of biodegradable BBs per game
Joint Ops – Skirmish & Rental 3–7.5 hours 11+ Combines experienced skirmishers and rental players; includes game fees, protective equipment for rentals, and biodegradable BBs

All under-18s must wear long sleeves and trousers, regardless of format.

What This Means for Your Decision

  • If you want a large, varied woodland site: the 100+ acre figure and the "one of the largest" claim are the main draw. Expect natural terrain and scenario-driven games rather than a compact arena.
  • If you're travelling from Portsmouth or Southampton: the venue is positioned between the two, so it's a regional trip rather than a local one for most players.
  • If you're new or renting: the Airsoft Rental format covers equipment, protection and BBs, so you don't need your own kit.
  • If you already own kit: the weekly Sunday Skirmish sessions are the standard option, with mixed and private events occasionally available.
  • If you're booking for younger players: Junior Airsoft is the family-friendly format, with the same long-sleeve and trousers requirement.

One thing the venue's own material does not specify is the exact address, travel times, or a breakdown of individually named game zones beyond the bookable game types. For precise directions and current session dates, check the booking pages directly before committing to a trip.
