What events does TR Register New Zealand organise?

Updated

TR Register New Zealand runs events at two levels: each of its 10 Regional Zones organises its own local runs, events and regular get-togethers, and the club as a whole holds one National Event each year, alternating between the North Island and the South Island. Local meetings are listed on the club's event calendar, so the calendar is the place to check for what is happening in your area.

Local events by region

The country is split into 10 Regional Zones — 7 in the North Island and 3 in the South Island:

Zone code Region
AKL Auckland
BOP Bay of Plenty
CAN Canterbury
HAB Hawke's Bay
NEM Nelson / Marlborough
NTL Northland
ODS Otago / Deep South
WAI Waikato
WEM Wellington / Manawatu
WHT Whanganui / Taranaki

Each region organises its own runs and events and holds regular get-togethers at various favourite venues on agreed dates. Because the schedule is set region by region, the mix of runs, meeting places and dates differs depending on where you are — the club does not publish one uniform national programme of local activity.

The event calendar

Local events and meetings are displayed on the event calendar. If you want to know what is coming up in a specific zone, the calendar is the intended reference point rather than a fixed annual schedule.

The National Event

A National Event is held annually to draw members of different regions together. This National Weekend is held at various locations throughout New Zealand, alternating between the North Island and the South Island. That rotation means the travel burden shifts between islands from year to year, which is worth factoring in if you are deciding whether to attend a particular year's event.

Who the events are for

The club was formed in 1975 and has around 300 members spread across the whole country. It exists for the enjoyment and promotion of the TR marque in New Zealand, and it also maintains a register of all TRs and their derivatives in the country, on and off the road — provenance that is available to members and prospective members. Events are organised within that membership community, so joining is the route to taking part. The club's site has a "Become a member today!" link pointing to how to join.

Practical points to check before attending

  • Confirm your zone first. With 10 zones, the region you fall into determines which local runs and meetings are relevant to you.
  • Use the calendar, not assumptions. Local dates and venues are set by each region, so check the calendar rather than relying on a recurring pattern.
  • Plan around the National Weekend's island rotation. Since it alternates between North and South Island locations, some years will require more travel than others.
