What Art Exhibits and Events Are Happening at Kellogg Community College?

Updated

Kellogg Community College (KCC) hosts free public art exhibits and events on its Battle Creek campus, and the best current example is "Portals: The Abstract Nature of Memory," a solo exhibition by Marshall-based artist and KCC alumna Meagan Wildt Thomas. It runs Sept. 7 through Thursday, Oct. 15 in the DeVries Gallery, and admission is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours. If you are looking for something to attend on campus, this exhibit and its related reception are the concrete options described in KCC's events calendar.

The Current Exhibit: "Portals" by Meagan Wildt Thomas

The show features more than 50 works by Wildt Thomas, ranging from abstract to illustrative mixed-media pieces. According to the college, the exhibit explores "the intersection between the definite and the abstract" — specifically how memory can be both a specific image and a feeling that is hard to name.

In her artist's statement, Wildt Thomas described the exhibit as "an invitation to be present in what you're feeling, to notice the beautiful ordinary things, and find a bit more magic in being where you are right now."

Checking for More Events

KCC maintains an events calendar on its website that lists current and upcoming campus happenings, including arts events. For questions about this exhibit or other KCC arts events and initiatives, the college directs inquiries to KCC's Arts and Communication Office at 269-965-4126.
