How to Save Recipes from the Web into Paprika
Updated
Paprika saves web recipes through its own built-in browser: you browse to a recipe page inside the app, then tap a button to download it into your collection. This works on iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows, and the saved recipe then joins your meal plans, grocery lists, and cloud sync. Note that each version of Paprika is sold separately, so the app you use to save a recipe is the one you need to own.
What you need before starting
- Paprika installed on the device you want to save from (iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows).
- The recipe page reachable in a normal browser — Paprika's importer reads the page it loads, so if the site blocks browsing or hides the recipe behind a login, the import may not capture it.
- A cloud sync account if you want the saved recipe to appear on your other devices. Cloud sync is what moves recipes, grocery lists, and meal plans across devices.
Steps to save a recipe
- Open Paprika and go to its built-in web browser rather than your normal browser.
- Navigate to the site and the specific recipe page you want.
- Tap the download button. Paprika pulls the recipe from the page and saves it into your collection.
- Open the saved recipe to check the ingredients and directions came through correctly.
The expected result is a new recipe entry in Paprika that you can edit, cook from, and sync. Because the import depends on the page's structure, some sites will come through cleanly and others may need a quick manual fix.
Editing a saved recipe
Once a recipe is in Paprika, you can adjust the text and images:
- Add bold, italic, links, and photos to recipe text.
- Add multiple high-resolution images; these are stored in your free cloud sync account.
This matters when an import grabs the ingredients but mangles the formatting, or when you want your own notes and photos attached to a dish.
Using the recipe after saving
Saved recipes are not just static pages. They feed into the rest of the app:
| Feature | What it does with your saved recipe |
|---|---|
| Meal planning | Add the recipe to weekly or monthly plans, and build reusable menus from favorites |
| Grocery lists | Ingredients flow into lists sorted by aisle, with similar items combined (1 egg + 2 eggs = 3 eggs) |
| Cooking tools | Timers in the directions are auto-detected and tappable; scale servings; convert metric/imperial |
| Cloud sync | Recipes, lists, and plans sync across all your devices |
Common snags
- The button doesn't capture the recipe. Some pages don't expose the recipe in a way the importer can read. Try the page again, or save the text manually.
- The recipe is on one device only. Check that cloud sync is set up and signed in on both devices; sync is the mechanism that carries data across.
- Formatting looks wrong. Use the editing tools to fix bold, italics, links, and images after import.
- You switched platforms. Since each version is sold separately, owning Paprika on Mac doesn't give you the Windows or mobile version — you need the version for the device you're saving on.
