How to Create and Apply a Path of Exile 2 Loot Filter with FilterBlade
Updated
FilterBlade is a browser-based customizer for NeverSink's loot filter that supports both Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2. You can use it to pick a strictness level, auto-adjust the filter to your in-game character, fine-tune colors and sounds, test the result in a loot simulator, and then export or sync the filter to your PoE profile. The workflow below follows the options FilterBlade presents on its start screen and editing tabs.
Before you start
- A browser and access to filterblade.xyz.
- A Path of Exile 2 character if you want to use the build-based auto-adjust option.
- A decision on how strict you want the filter to be, since strictness controls how many items are shown.
Step 1: Load a filter
When FilterBlade opens, it checks for a filter to load and shows a "Please wait..." state. Depending on what it finds, you may see:
- Load Auto-Save? — choose Okay to continue your previous session, or No, thanks to start fresh. If you want to delete auto-saved changes later, use Reset filter.
- Filter loaded via sharing link! — this means the filter was opened from a shared link rather than your own saved state.
- Sound files download — confirm with Okay! if prompted.
Once loading finishes, you land on the Get started! screen.
Step 2: Set game mode and strictness
On the start screen you choose the two settings that shape everything else:
- Game mode — select the mode that matches how you play (the interface shows Softcore as an example option).
- Strictness — for example Semi-Strict. This selects how many items are shown. Lower strictness shows more items; higher strictness hides more.
Step 3: Optionally auto-adjust for your build
FilterBlade offers Auto-Adjust for build, described as generating a filter specific to your in-game character. Use this if you want the filter tuned to what your character actually needs rather than a generic preset. If you prefer full manual control, skip it and go straight to customization.
Step 4: Customize the filter
Use Customize filter to "safely fine-tune the entire filter in detail." The main tools:
Style Editor and Decorators
- Decorators let you create your own items and preview how they look in the filter.
- The Style Editor changes reoccurring colors and sounds. Changing a color here affects every entry in the filter that uses that color.
- Items with the default appearance won't appear in this list and can't be changed here.
Modules
- My Modules are building blocks for filters. If several of your filters share common changes, keep those changes in a module and reuse them.
- You can also use other people's modules from the Overview tab when creating a new filter.
Global and advanced editors
- Global One-Click Edits apply quick changes to the whole filter, and they are applied before (i.e. have lower priority than) your other changes.
- Legacy Global Color & Sound Editors and other advanced tools are aimed at experienced FilterBlade users, developers, and filter authors. FilterBlade states most users won't need them.
- Review changes visualizes every change you've made in the currently active filter.
Line Translator
The Filter Line Translator is for day-to-day filter editing: use the appearance editor to find the right colors, then copy/paste the generated code into your filter. The four sample items represent the four rarities (Normal/None, Magic, Rare, Unique), which have different default text colors.
Step 5: Test in the loot simulator
FilterBlade includes a Loot Generator where you can:
- Import Item from PoE Item Builder or Generate loot / Generate valuable loot.
- Set Zone Level and change the loot pile background image.
- Click an item to edit it and see how it appears under your filter.
This is the fastest way to confirm your color and visibility choices before exporting.
Step 6: Export or sync to Path of Exile
Use Export filter to PoE to either download the filter or sync it to your PoE profile. After that, the filter is available to select in-game.
Troubleshooting and caveats
- Stuck on "Please wait..." — FilterBlade is still checking for a filter to load. Wait for the load step to finish before interacting.
- Auto-save prompt — if you don't want to resume the previous session, choose No, thanks; to clear saved changes entirely, use Reset filter.
- Uploading a local filter — FilterBlade warns this "severely limits the functionality on FilterBlade: Expect bugs!" With a local upload you can test in the loot simulator and use the advanced → structure screen to change the filter, but you can't reliably use the custom editors.
- Default-appearance items — these won't show up in the Style Editor, so plan color changes around that limitation.
