Chesapeake Soccer Club: Programs, Levels, and How to Join
Updated
Chesapeake Soccer Club (CSC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-supported youth soccer club serving Chesapeake, Hampton Roads, and neighboring North Carolina communities. It runs three levels of play — Recreational (ages 4–10), Advanced (U9–U19), and Travel (U10–U19) — so the right starting point depends mainly on your player's age and how much structured training and competition they want. Registration and account access run through the club's GotSport system.
The three levels of play
CSC describes its programs as a pathway, with each level adding training structure and competitive intensity.
| Level | Age range | What it's suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Recreational League | U4–U9 (ages 4–10) | First-time and younger players; age-appropriate instruction, small-sided games, teamwork, and lots of playing time |
| Advanced | U9–U19 | Players ready for structured training, position-based play, and competitive games in the Tidewater Advanced Soccer League (TASL) |
| Travel | U10–U19 | Higher-level training and competition against clubs across Virginia and surrounding areas |
The club frames its overall approach as "Players First. Community Strong." and "Grow the Galaxy."
Recreational League (U4–U9)
This is the entry point. The emphasis is on introducing soccer through age-appropriate coaching, small-sided games, and teamwork rather than results. If your child is new to the sport or you want a lower-commitment environment, start here.
Advanced (U9–U19)
Advanced teams are the next step for athletes ready for more structure: positional play, regular training, and league games in TASL. This suits players who have outgrown recreational play but aren't yet at the travel level.
Travel (U10–U19)
Travel offers the highest level of training and competition in the club, with games against clubs throughout Virginia and nearby areas. Expect a greater time and travel commitment than the other two levels.
Matching your player to a program
CSC publishes two resources to help with this decision:
- Player Pathway — shows how players progress from Recreational through Advanced to Travel.
- Player Placements — the process for determining which team or level fits a player.
Use the age ranges in the table above as a first filter, then check the Player Pathway and Player Placements pages for the current season's specifics. Age-group labels (U4, U9, etc.) refer to the seasonal age bracket, so confirm your player's bracket against the club's current guidance rather than assuming from birth year alone.
How to register and log in
CSC uses GotSport for registration and account management. The site provides Login and Register links, and a dedicated GotSport Login entry.
Typical steps:
- Go to the club site and choose Register (or GotSport Login if you already have an account).
- Create or sign in to your GotSport account.
- Select the program level and age group that matches your player.
- Complete the registration and any required consents (the club lists Safeguarding and Compliance and Codes of Conduct for players and parents).
Expected result: you'll have a GotSport account tied to your player's team, which is also how you'll access schedules and club communications.
Common snags: if you can't find your age group, it may be closed or listed under a different level — check the Player Pathway page or contact the club. Returning families should log in rather than create a new account to avoid duplicate records.
Costs and the volunteer model
CSC is a nonprofit, volunteer-supported organization and describes its environment as positive and affordable. That means costs are generally kept lower than commercial clubs, but families are typically expected to contribute volunteer time. The site does not publish specific fees or payment details, so confirm current costs and volunteer expectations directly with the club before committing.
Fields, schedules, and gear
- Fields: the club maintains a Field Directory, a CSC Fields Layout, and Field Procedures & Info. Check Field Status before heading out, since conditions can change.
- Schedules: game schedules are posted for TASL, VPSL, N1, and Friday Night Lights.
- Uniforms and gear: see the Uniforms And Galaxy Gear page for what players need.
- Friday Night Lights: a fall season kickoff event under the lights, plus weekly goalkeeper training with Jordan Bethke on Fridays, 5:30–6:30 PM (as listed on the site).
