What is ANSETT (ansett.com.au)?
Updated
ANSETT is a national directory of Australian services, travel, tourism and entertainment. It lists businesses and providers — wedding suppliers, photographers, health practitioners and trades among them — and each entry links out to the business's own website. It is a discovery and referral site, not a booking platform: you browse or search listings, then deal directly with the provider. It is also open to submissions, and submitting a business, story or event is free, with every feature reviewed before it appears.
What you'll find listed
The directory is organised around a small set of broad categories, with individual entries underneath. From the listings currently shown on the site:
| Category | Example listing | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Weddings | Brisbane Marriage Office | Fast, affordable, simple marriage ceremonies |
| Weddings | Melbourne Marriage Office | Legally marrying couples in Melbourne |
| Weddings | Josh Withers Wedding Celebrant | Tasmanian wedding celebrant ceremonies |
| Weddings | Directory for Tasmanian Weddings | A Tasmanian wedding vendor directory |
| Weddings | The Elopement Collective / Elope in Europe | Curated elopements, including European elopements |
| Photography | Joshua Mikhaiel | Gold Coast wedding photographer |
| Photography | Mike Stevens Photography | Portrait and commercial photography, Melbourne |
| Travel | Daves Private Charter Tours | Group charter tours |
| Travel | Boat Reflections | Riverside accommodation in the Huon Valley |
| Tourism | Mountain River Flower Patch | Pick-your-own bouquets, Huon Valley |
| Services | The Internet, by Josh Withers | Web development for small Australian service businesses |
| Services | McPhee Engineering Systems | Structured systems for project delivery |
| Services | HutchTV | Hobart video production, live streaming, drone work |
| Services | Peter Gonaggettapeni | Story and idea development |
| Entertainment / media | Volcanic Winter by Mark Rutherford | A novel |
| Entertainment / media | The Radio | Local news files for Sydney and NSW regions |
The spread is wide, but the pattern is consistent: small Australian operators, mostly in the wedding, travel, tourism, photography, trades and creative-services space.
How the site works for visitors
- Browse or search by category. Listings sit under headings such as Weddings, Travel, Tourism, Photography, Services and Entertainment.
- Read the short entry. Each listing carries a one- or two-line description of what the provider does.
- Follow the link out. Every entry points to the provider's own domain — for example
themarriageoffice.com,daves.com.au,hutchtv.com.au. ANSETT itself does not appear to handle enquiries, quotes or payments.
That last point matters if you are expecting a comparison engine with prices, reviews or availability. Nothing on the site indicates pricing, ratings or booking functionality; the value is in the curated shortlist and the direct link.
Submitting a listing
The site invites businesses, stories and events to be featured. According to its own submission text:
- Submitting is free.
- Every feature is reviewed before it appears.
- You are asked to explain what you do, what is happening, and why it matters to readers.
The submission route shown on the page points to mafia.net.au. If you are a small Australian operator in one of the covered categories, this is a low-cost way to get a descriptive link and a short write-up in front of people already browsing that category.
When ANSETT is useful — and when it isn't
Useful if you want a hand-picked starting point for Australian wedding vendors, travel and tourism operators, photographers or local trades, and you are happy to contact providers directly.
Less useful if you need to compare prices, check availability, read verified customer reviews or book online in one place. The directory does not present itself as doing any of those things.
For businesses, it is worth considering as one more place to be found — particularly if your customers are searching by category and region rather than by brand name. The review step means acceptance is not automatic, so treat it as an editorial listing rather than a guaranteed placement.
