Getting There and Parking
The garden is located at 2355 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise, Idaho 83712.
The on-site lot is temporarily closed. Alternate parking is available at the Table Rock Trailhead behind the Warden's House. Plan a few extra minutes to walk from there to the entrance.
What's On During Your Visit
The garden runs seasonal events and exhibits alongside its permanent collections. Current and upcoming highlights listed on the site include:
- Woodland Wonders — opens July 1
- Outlaw Field Concert Series — July 10 to September 10
- Bug Day — September 19
- Fall Plant Sale — September 24
- Scarecrow Stroll — October 1 to November 2
- Winter Garden aGlow — winter season
- Winter Flower Power Happy Hour — Thursdays in October
If you're visiting in summer or fall, check the events calendar before you go — a concert or plant sale may affect crowd levels or access to certain areas.
Gardens and Collections to Explore
The garden is organized into distinct areas, so you can prioritize what interests you:
- English Garden
- Rose Garden
- Herb Garden
- Meditation Garden
- Children's Adventure Garden
- Plant Select Demonstration Garden
- Vegetable Garden
- Idaho Native Plant Garden
- Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden
- The Western Waterwise Garden
The Children's Adventure Garden is worth noting if you're visiting with young kids. The native plant gardens are a good starting point if you want to see what grows well in Idaho's climate.
Practical Tips
- Bring water and sun protection. Much of the garden is outdoors, and Boise summers get hot.
- Check the events page first. Special events like the concert series or plant sale may change the atmosphere or draw larger crowds.
- Membership pays off quickly. If you plan to visit more than a few times a year, a membership covers admission every visit and includes access to member-only events like Petals & Pours.
- Group and school visits are handled separately — see the Group & School Visits page on the site if you're organizing for a larger party.
- Library Passport Program — check whether your local library participates, as it may offer admission access.
