How to Find WFMU's Program Schedule and Archives

Updated

WFMU's schedule and archives live in two separate places on wfmu.org: the Program Schedule page for what's airing now and upcoming, and the Archives / Playlists pages for shows that already aired. If you know the DJ or show name, the fastest route is search; if you just want to browse, start with the schedule and work backward through the archive feed.

Finding the program schedule

The schedule is the entry point for everything currently on air across WFMU's streams.

  • Program Schedule — the main grid of weekly shows, linked from the top navigation and the "Programming" section.
  • Program Listings — a text-oriented view of the same programming, useful if you want to scan rather than read a grid.
  • Upcoming Special Programs — one-off broadcasts and specials that don't sit in the regular weekly slots.
  • Upcoming Guests & Specials — a heads-up on who's appearing and when.

WFMU broadcasts at 91.1 FM in New York and 90.1 FM in the Hudson Valley, but the schedule also covers its online-only streams, each with its own schedule page:

Rock'n'Soul Radio Schedule
Give the Drummer Radio Schedule
Sheena's Jungle Room Schedule

If you're trying to work out which stream a show belongs to, check the stream's own schedule rather than assuming it's on the main FM feed.

Finding archives of past shows

Archives are where WFMU differs from a typical station: most shows are archived with audio and a tracklist.

  • Most Recent Archives — the running list of newly posted shows, each with an MP3 link and a Pop-up player link. The homepage feed shows entries like "9/22/26: MP3 | Pop-up" followed by the show and DJ name.
  • Weekly Program Archives — archives organized by the regular weekly schedule.
  • Special Program Archives — archives of the one-off specials.
  • More archives… — the full archive index, reached from the recent-archives feed.
  • Playlists and Program Archives — the combined view where playlists and audio sit together.
  • Playlists feed — a feed of recently added playlists, if you'd rather subscribe than browse.

A typical recent-archives entry looks like this:

9/22/26: MP3 | Pop-up
Music Only I Care About with Miss Mei

The MP3 link downloads or streams the audio file directly; the Pop-up link opens the show in a pop-up player, which is the better option if you want to keep browsing the site while listening.

Playlists

Playlists are posted separately from audio and are listed by date and show name — for example, "9/22/26 Feelings with Michele with One 'L'" or "9/22/26 Tony Coulter." They're useful when you want the tracklist without committing to the full audio, or when you heard something and need to identify it.

Searching for a specific show, DJ, or track

When you already know what you're looking for, skip the browsing:

  • Search Central — the main search entry point for the site.
  • Advanced Search — for narrower queries.
  • DJ Homepages — individual DJ pages, which collect that DJ's shows, playlists, and archive links in one place.
  • Heavily Played Records — a way in when you're chasing a record rather than a show.

Searching by DJ name is usually more reliable than searching by show title, since show names change more often than the people hosting them.

Listening options and formats

WFMU offers several ways to listen, and the right one depends on whether you want live or on-demand:

  • Live audio streams — a 128k MP3 stream and a 32k MP3 stream, plus a pop-up player. The 32k stream is the lower-bandwidth option.
  • Podcasts — a separate subscription route for shows offered in podcast form.
  • Weekly and special program archives — on-demand audio for shows that already aired.
  • Stream Help — the page to check first if a stream won't play. The site also notes "Please enable inline frames!" which is a hint that the pop-up player depends on iframes being allowed in your browser.

If a stream fails, Stream Help is the intended troubleshooting entry rather than the schedule pages.

Practical notes

  • Archives are added after a show airs, so a show currently on air won't have an archive entry yet — check the recent-archives feed later.
  • The archive feed is dated, so you can scan it chronologically to find a specific broadcast.
  • WFMU is an independent freeform station and runs an annual off-air fundraiser, The Hellraiser, each October, conducted mostly by internet and mail. It doesn't interrupt the archive or schedule pages, but you'll see donation links throughout the site.
  • Beyond the schedule and archives, the site also hosts a monthly newsletter, a record fair, Monty Hall (its venue), and a store for swag — none of which are needed to listen, but they're linked from the main menu if you want them.
