What Is New in the GPAC 26.07 Release?
Updated
GPAC 26.07 is a maintenance and feature-update release announced on gpac.io on 24 July 2026. It does not introduce a new product line; instead it cleans up legacy code, extends MPEG-DASH/HLS packaging and playback behavior, adds hardware-accelerated encryption options, and expands filter and muxing capabilities. Installers for the most common platforms are published on gpac.io alongside the release note.
Release at a glance

| Encryption | EVP support for hardware AES; AV1 scalable ID (temporal and/or spatial) filtering |
| Filters | Discontinuity detection in reframer and dasher, MABR repair option, prefix-based SourceID matching, period switching on new encryption key, DREF URL override, raw IAMF mux/demux, empty initial playlist in flist, custom source filters, GHI demuxer improvements, ffavf as source, sfrag tolerance in mp4mx |
| Other | MP4Box automatic track reordering, GF_Blob and gfio-from-mem test modes, remote monitoring log inspection, light formatting syntax for filter status, QJS 26-06, concurrent gfio-from-mem users, more H2/H3 configuration and QUIC support, bug fixes and security patches |
MPEG-DASH and HLS changes
The packaging and client side received the largest share of updates:
- Discontinuity handling was improved in both the packager and the client, which matters when a stream switches encoding parameters mid-session.
- sfrag tolerance lets you generate segments with a fixed number of fragments even when fragment durations vary.
- DASH-IF Live Ingest profile was added, targeting live ingest workflows that follow the DASH-IF profile.
- SCTE35 and MPD events are now supported both inband and out-of-band, with corresponding HLS handling documented in the wiki.
- DASH-L3D and LL-HLS support was improved.
- Timeshift buffer cleanup in manifests now works in multi-period cases.
If your workflow depends on ad insertion or live-to-VOD transitions, the SCTE35 and multi-period timeshift changes are the ones most likely to affect you.
Encryption and filter updates
Encryption gained EVP support for hardware AES, which allows AES operations to be offloaded where the platform provides it. AV1 scalable ID filtering (temporal and/or spatial) was also added.
On the filter side, the notable additions are:
- Discontinuity detection in the reframer and dasher.
- An improved mediaserver MABR repair option.
- SourceID matching by prefix, which simplifies wiring filters together.
- An option to switch periods when a new encryption key is encountered.
- DREF URL override in mp4dmx.
- Raw IAMF mux and demux to/from MP4.
- Acceptance of an empty initial playlist in flist.
- Source loading can use custom source filters other than JS.
- An improved GHI demuxer for manifest regeneration.
- ffavf can now be used as a source.
- sfrag mode tolerance in mp4mx so output aligns to SAP frames.
Other changes
- MP4Box has a new option for automatic track reordering.
- Test modes for GF_Blob and gfio from mem were added to the gpac CLI.
- The remote monitoring web app can now inspect logs; start recording with
-rmt -rmt-log. - A light formatting syntax was added for filter status.
- The project switched to QJS 26-06.
- gfio from mem was refined to allow multiple concurrent users, which some demuxers require.
- More configuration options for H2 and H3, with improved QUIC support.
- Numerous bug fixes and security patches.
How to get it
Installers are available on gpac.io for most common platforms. The release note points readers to the complete changelog for full detail, and the project asks for feedback and for the release to be shared.
