How to Play Wordtwist by Puzzle Baron
Wordtwist is an online word-finding game where you hunt for as many words as possible inside a jumbled square of randomly selected letters. You can play on either a 4x4 board (16 letters) or a 5x5 board (25 letters). A word only counts if each letter is contiguous with the next — side-by-side, above or below, or on the diagonal — and no single letter tile can be used more than once within the same word.
The Goal of a Round
The purpose of the game is to discover as many valid words as possible within the letter grid. Wordtwist is an online variant of traditional Boggle, but it uses different rules of gameplay and board distribution. If you want the traditional board game, the site points you to Hasbro (Boggle is a Hasbro trademark, and Wordtwist is not affiliated with them).
You can play competitively against more than 100,000 players from around the world. Registered users have all their games tracked and scored in ongoing competitions, and top players are listed in the Wordtwist hall of fame.
What Makes a Word Valid
Two rules decide whether a word is accepted:
- Contiguity — each letter must touch the next one horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- No reuse — a letter position cannot be used more than once in a given word.
The site's own example shows how this works. On a sample board you can spell SUPER by starting at the S, moving diagonally to the U, up to the P, diagonally to the E, and finally diagonally to the R. From that same starting tile you could also make SPURT — but you could not make "SPURTS," because the only contiguous S has already been used at the beginning of that word.
How Scoring Works
Three criteria determine the final score of any word:
