Which Activities at HoMA Are Included With Admission and Which Require Tickets?

Updated

At the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA), several recurring programs are labeled "Included with admission" — the highlights tour, the New Exhibitions Spotlight, and the Courtyards of HoMA tour — while other events, such as film screenings, are marked "Tickets," meaning they are ticketed separately. Members get free entry all year, which can change how you pay for the included programs. Always check the individual event page before you go, since the label on each listing is the only reliable signal of what your admission covers.

Programs marked "Included with admission"

These appear on HoMA's "On at HoMA" schedule with that exact label, so they are covered by your general admission:

Program When Label
Highlights tour Wednesdays & Sundays at 11am, Fridays at 2pm Included with admission
New Exhibitions Spotlight Wednesdays & Thursdays at 2pm, Fridays at 11am Included with admission
Courtyards of HoMA Thursdays and Saturdays at 11am Included with admission

The pattern is that guided tours and recurring gallery talks are built into the admission price, while one-off or special-format events are not.

Events that require separate tickets

The clearest example in HoMA's current listings is the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour, which shows the label "Tickets" rather than "Included with admission." Film screenings and special events like this are the category to watch — if a listing says "Tickets," budget for it on top of admission.

What membership changes

HoMA promotes membership with the line "Join HoMA today and get free entry all year long." If you visit more than once or twice, membership can remove the per-visit admission cost for the included programs above. It does not automatically mean ticketed events become free — those still show "Tickets" on their own listings.

How to confirm before you go

  1. Open the "On at HoMA" schedule on honolulumuseum.org.
  2. Find the specific event you want.
  3. Read its label: "Included with admission" means covered; "Tickets" means buy separately.
  4. If you're a member, check whether the event page notes any member-specific access.

The labels are applied per event, so two programs on the same day can differ — one included, one ticketed. Treat the label on the individual listing as the final word rather than assuming a category (tour vs. film) always behaves the same way.
