Buying an Ocicat Kitten from Purrfurdots Ocicats: What to Expect
Purrfurdots Ocicats in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania sells CFA-registered Ocicat kittens year-round, with a one-year limited health guarantee, a $100 deposit to hold a kitten, and U.S.-wide shipping available. As of January 1, 2020, kitten prices are $700, and occasionally available spayed or neutered adults are priced from $100 to $500 depending on age. This guide is for buyers deciding whether to reserve a kitten from this breeder and wanting to know what the process involves.
About the Breed and the Breeder
Purrfurdots has been breeding Ocicats since 1986 and describes its cats as "wild looking" domestics with no wild blood, so they don't carry feral tendencies. The breed itself originated in 1964 from a mix of Abyssinian, Siamese, and a bit of American Shorthair genetics.
Key traits the breeder highlights:
- Temperament: Dog-like in their sociability, friendly toward people and other pets, affectionate without being clingy, and described as inquisitive, smart, and fun-loving.
- With children: Ocicats get along well with children.
- Trainability: The breeder cites a chocolate silver classic named Spirit who was potty trained by 7 months old.
- Coat and grooming: Short coats with minimal shedding and low-maintenance grooming; the breeder notes they tend to be accepted by owners with allergies.
- Size: Ocicats are the largest shorthair breed registered with the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA).
- Colors and patterns: Available in twelve colors, with patterns including spotted, classic, ticked, ivory, and solid.
The breeder offers both pet and show prospects from Champion, Grand Champion, and distinguished merit lines.

What to Confirm Before Reserving
Because the source material does not cover every purchase detail, verify these directly with the breeder:
- Current kitten price and what the $700 includes (vaccinations, health testing, registration paperwork)
- The exact terms of the one-year limited health guarantee
- Shipping cost and method for your location
- Whether a kitten matching your preferred color or pattern is currently available or how long the waiting list is
If you want a CFA-registered Ocicat with a documented health guarantee and are prepared for a $700 kitten plus a $100 holding deposit, Purrfurdots is set up for that purchase, including shipping if you're outside Pennsylvania. If you'd rather meet the cat first or avoid shipping, plan a visit to Waynesboro or look for a breeder closer to you.
