How to Attend a Triangle Bonsai Society Meeting or Event
Updated
The Triangle Bonsai Society (TBS) opens its monthly general meetings to the public, so you can attend without being a member. The next general meeting is Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM, at the Raleigh Police Club, 3500 Leonard Rd, Knightdale, NC 27545. Workshops and classes, however, are reserved for members, and the September workshops require signup.
What Happens at a General Meeting
TBS meetings feature lectures, workshops, and demonstrations with bonsai artists from the local, regional, national, and international level. The format is built around helping enthusiasts get started and advance their skills, so you don't need prior experience to walk in.
The September 2026 meeting features guest artist Tyler Sherrod, who apprenticed with Shinji Suzuki in Japan for five years and runs a studio in Hickory, NC.
Attending the September 2026 Meeting
- Show up at the meeting time. No registration is mentioned for general meetings — the club states they are open to the public.
- Go to the location. Raleigh Police Club, 3500 Leonard Rd, Knightdale, NC 27545.
- Expect a guest artist presentation. Tyler Sherrod is the featured artist for this meeting.
Workshops: Members Only, Signup Required
Tyler Sherrod leads two workshops on Saturday, September 19, the day before the general meeting:
| Workshop | Focus |
|---|---|
| Morning | Hinoki Cypress |
| Afternoon | BYOT (Bring Your Own Tree) |
Signup for these workshops is open, but TBS notes that workshops and classes are reserved for members. If you want to participate rather than just observe, plan to join the club first.
Deciding Whether to Join
- Try before joining: Attend a general meeting as a public guest and see whether the club fits your interests.
- Join if you want hands-on access: Workshops and classes are the member-only portion, so membership is the path to working directly with visiting artists.
- Membership reach: Although TBS is centered in the Triangle region, it has active members throughout the eastern half of North Carolina, so distance within that area isn't a barrier.
Practical Notes
- The club publishes a newsletter, a bonsai care guide, an events calendar, and bonsai links — useful if you want to prepare before attending or keep up between meetings.
- TBS also runs a larger event, TBS Expo, with photos posted from the 2026 edition.
- Meeting dates and guest artists change month to month, so confirm the current listing before traveling.
