How to Apply, Remove, and Care for SynergEyes Contact Lenses
Updated
SynergEyes provides application and removal videos plus a Handling & Care section on its site, and the company directs patients to follow their eye care professional's specific instructions for their lens type. The general sequence is the same for most SynergEyes lenses: wash and dry your hands, apply the lens to the correct eye, remove it with the technique your fitter taught you, then clean and store it in the prescribed solution. Because SynergEyes makes several different lens designs, the exact steps and care products depend on which lens you were fitted with.
Before You Start
- Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry them with a lint-free towel. Avoid oily or scented soaps.
- Work over a clean, well-lit surface. A mirror and a small bowl or drain cover reduce the risk of losing a lens.
- Keep your fingernails short and smooth so you don't tear or scratch the lens.
- Confirm which lens goes in which eye if your prescription differs between eyes.
- Have your prescribed solution and case ready before you touch the lens.
Applying a SynergEyes Lens
- Place the lens on the tip of your index finger, concave side up, and check that it is clean, moist, and not inside out.
- Look straight ahead or slightly down into a mirror, and hold your upper eyelid with the fingers of one hand and your lower eyelid with the other.
- Gently place the lens on your eye while continuing to hold the lids open.
- Release your eyelids slowly, then blink a few times to settle the lens.
- Repeat for the other eye, then check that your vision is clear and the lens feels comfortable.
If the lens feels uncomfortable or your vision is blurry, remove it, rinse it with the prescribed solution, and try again. Persistent discomfort is a reason to stop and contact your fitter.
Removing a SynergEyes Lens
- Wash and dry your hands again.
- Look up and pull your lower eyelid down with your middle finger.
- Use your index finger to slide the lens down onto the white part of your eye (the sclera).
- Pinch the lens gently between your thumb and index finger and lift it away.
- Repeat for the other eye.
Hybrid and scleral designs can sit differently on the eye, so use the removal method your eye care professional demonstrated for your specific lens rather than a generic pinch if you were taught something different.
Handling and Care
- Clean and disinfect the lens after every wear using only the solution your fitter recommended.
- Never use tap water, saliva, or homemade saline on the lens or in the case.
- Rinse the case with the prescribed solution and let it air-dry face down with the caps off.
- Replace the case as often as your eye care professional advises.
- Keep the lens away from heat, and store it only in its case with fresh solution.
- Follow the replacement schedule you were given; do not extend wear beyond what your fitter approved.
When to Stop and Call Your Fitter
Remove the lens and contact your eye care professional if you notice:
- Pain, burning, or persistent irritation
- Redness that does not clear
- Sudden blurry vision or sensitivity to light
- A lens that will not come out or feels stuck
Finding Your Lens-Specific Instructions
SynergEyes lists its products by design, including SynergEyes iD Single Vision, SynergEyes iD Multifocal EDOF, Duette, Duette Progressive, UltraHealth, and SynergEyes VS scleral lenses. Because handling details vary by design, use the Application & Removal videos and the Handling & Care material that match your lens, and confirm any step with the doctor who fitted you. The site's Find A Doctor tool can help you locate a fitter if you need one.
