Does PasteDL Require an Instagram or TikTok Login? What It Logs
Updated
No. PasteDL does not ask for your Instagram or TikTok password, and it does not require you to log in to either platform. You paste a public link, and the tool prepares the file on its own media backend. On the logging side, PasteDL states that it keeps limited technical logs for security and operations — not a personal download library — while the platforms themselves may log requests under their own policies.
What "no login" actually means here
The absence of a login is about credentials, not about bypassing privacy. PasteDL never receives your account password, and it does not connect to your account. That has two practical consequences:
- Only public content works. Private, deleted, or otherwise restricted posts, stories, Reels, and profiles cannot be fetched. There is no account session to authorize access to them.
- No personal download library. PasteDL does not build a history of what you downloaded tied to your identity. The tool describes its logs as limited technical records kept for security and operations, not a record of your downloads.
If you were expecting the tool to reach content that only your logged-in account can see, that is not what it does.
What PasteDL says it logs — and what it doesn't
| Item | According to PasteDL |
|---|---|
| Instagram/TikTok password | Never requested |
| Personal download library | Not kept |
| Watermark added to files | None added |
| Technical logs | Limited logs kept for security and operations |
| Platform-side logging | Platforms may log requests under their own policies |
The last row is the part people often miss. Even when a third-party tool doesn't log your activity in a personal way, the platform serving the media can still record the request on its end. PasteDL is explicit that this happens under the platforms' own policies, not its own.
How the no-login flow works
The process is the same for Instagram and TikTok, and it never asks for credentials.
- Copy the link. On Instagram, open a public post, Reel, story, Highlight, or profile and copy the link from the share menu. On TikTok, tap Share on the video and choose Copy link — short
vm.tiktok.comlinks also work. - Paste it into PasteDL. The tool detects the content type and prepares the file on its media backend. No password prompt appears at any point.
- Click Download. Videos and Reels save as MP4; photos and photo stories save as JPG. For TikTok, the saved MP4 carries no TikTok watermark, and PasteDL adds nothing of its own.
Common points of confusion
"No login" is not the same as "anonymous to the platform." PasteDL doesn't need your account, but the platform may still log the request. If anonymity from the platform matters to you, that is a different question than whether PasteDL asks for a password.
"No personal download library" doesn't mean "no logs at all." PasteDL keeps limited technical logs for security and operations. The distinction is that these aren't a personal archive of your downloads.
Private content won't work regardless of login. Because there is no account session, restricted content is out of reach by design — not a bug or a limitation you can work around.
Who this fits
PasteDL suits you if you want to save public Instagram videos, Reels, stories, photos, carousels, Highlights, and profile pictures, or public TikTok videos, without handing over account credentials and without a watermark being added. It is not the right tool if you need to download private or restricted content, or if you need a saved history of your downloads.
