Can Diarium Sync Journal Entries Across Devices?
Updated
Yes, but only with Diarium Pro. Diarium is available on Windows, Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac, and its optional Cloud Sync keeps entries updated across those devices. Sync requires the Pro version and runs through your own cloud storage — OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox or WebDAV — rather than a Diarium account. Without Pro, entries stay local to the device where you wrote them.
What you need before syncing
- Diarium Pro on each device you want to sync. The site describes Pro as a one-time purchase per platform, so buying it on one platform does not automatically cover another.
- A supported cloud storage account with enough free space for your journal, including any photos, videos, audio or files you attach.
- The same cloud account connected in Diarium on every device. Sync is not a Diarium-hosted service, so there is no shared login to fall back on.
How to set up sync
- Install Diarium on each device from its respective store (Windows, Android, iOS/iPadOS, Mac).
- Unlock Pro on each device.
- In Diarium's settings, connect your chosen cloud provider and sign in to that provider's account.
- Repeat the same provider and account on your other devices.
- Write a test entry on one device, then check that it appears on another.
Expected result: entries, attachments and tags written on one device show up on the others, and the calendar and timeline views reflect the combined journal.
Common snags
- Pro is per platform. If you journal on both an iPhone and a Windows PC, expect to pay for Pro twice.
- Different accounts break sync. If one device is connected to Google Drive and another to iCloud, or to two different Google accounts, entries will not meet.
- Attachments drive storage use. Unlimited attachments are supported, but large video or audio files consume space in your cloud account, not Diarium's.
- No account means no recovery shortcut. Because there is no Diarium login, restoring access depends on your cloud provider's account recovery, not on Diarium.
What sync does not change
Privacy works the same with or without sync. Diarium requires no account to start journaling, entries can stay entirely on your device, and you can protect them with a password, PIN or biometrics. Sync moves data through storage you already control; it does not route your journal through a Diarium server.
If you write on a single device, you can skip sync entirely. If you move between a phone and a computer regularly, budget for Pro on each platform and pick one cloud provider to standardize on before you start.
