Can I shop at the Art Gallery of Ballarat Online or in Person?

Updated

The Gallery Shop inside the Art Gallery of Ballarat's main building at 40 Lydiard St Nth is closed for building upgrades, so you cannot shop there in person right now. You have two options instead: browse "Shop new arrivals" through the gallery's website, or visit in person at Backspace Gallery, 43 Mair St, Ballarat.

Current Shopping Options

Option Location Status
Gallery Shop (main building) 40 Lydiard St Nth, Ballarat Closed for building upgrades
Online shop artgalleryofballarat.com.au "Shop new arrivals" available
Backspace Gallery 43 Mair St, Ballarat Open as an alternative visit location

Shopping Online

The website lists a "Shop new arrivals" section alongside a "Visit shop" link in its menu. If you want to buy without travelling to Ballarat, start there. The site also shows a cart and a search function, so you can look for specific items rather than scrolling the full range.

One practical note: the closure notice specifically mentions that the building upgrades include the Gallery Shop, which is why the online shop is the main way to buy while works continue.

Shopping in Person

The gallery directs visitors to Backspace Gallery at 43 Mair St, Ballarat, while the main building is closed. The same notice also points to Art Screen and the Mining Exchange as places to visit during this period. If your goal is to combine a gallery visit with a purchase, Backspace is the location the gallery itself names as the alternative.

What's On While You Visit

If you are making the trip, current exhibitions listed on the site are all free:

  • Shaun Gladwell
  • Chelle Destefano
  • Georgina Matherson
  • Marylou Verberne
