Can You Still Buy On2 Flix Pro, Flix Standard, or Other Flix Products?

Updated

No. On2 Technologies' Flix product line — including Flix Pro, Flix Standard, Flix Exporter, Flix PowerPlayers, Flix Live, Flix DirectShow SDK, Flix Publisher, and Flix Engine — is no longer for sale. Google acquired On2 Technologies and its video products and technology in February 2010, and the On2 site now states plainly that these products are discontinued. There is no pricing, purchase channel, or download offer listed for any of them.

What the On2 Site Confirms

The current on2.com page carries only a short notice. Its key points:

  • Acquisition: Google acquired On2 Technologies and its video products and technology in February 2010.
  • Product status: Every named Flix product is "no longer for sale."
  • Scope: The notice covers the full Flix family, from the consumer-facing editors (Flix Pro, Flix Standard) to the SDKs and server-side tools (Flix DirectShow SDK, Flix Engine).
  • No commerce signals: The page lists no prices, no payment options, and no links to buy or download.

The page is dated 2010 and functions as an end-of-life notice rather than a product site.

What This Means If You Want the Software Today

Because the products are discontinued and no official sales channel exists, there is no legitimate route to buy a license from On2 or Google. Practical implications:

  • No official purchase or support. You cannot obtain a license, activation, or vendor support through on2.com.
  • Documentation and downloads are not offered on the page. The notice does not point to archived installers or manuals.
  • Third-party copies carry risk. Any installer circulating on download sites is unverified and may be outdated, incompatible with current operating systems, or bundled with unwanted software. Treat such files cautiously.
  • Plan for alternatives. If your goal is video encoding or conversion, current tools from active vendors are the safer path; the specific replacement depends on your format and workflow needs.
