EnglishCan You Still Download or Watch Videos on Vine?
Updated
No. Vine is in an archived state, so you cannot download the app or watch videos on vine.co as a working service. The site itself states: "We have now placed Vine in an archived state." The "Download Vine to watch videos" text still visible on the page is a historical description of what Vine was, not a current offer. There is no active download link or viewing entry point provided.
What the page actually says
The only current status message on vine.co is the archived notice:
"Dear Vine Community - thank you for all the inspiration, laughs, and loops. We have now placed Vine in an archived state."
Alongside it, the page still carries Vine's original description as "the entertainment network where videos and personalities get really big, really fast," and the line "Download Vine to watch videos, remixes and trends before they blow up."
These two things conflict on their face, and the conflict is the whole answer: the description describes the service as it existed, while the notice describes its status now. When a service is archived, the marketing copy is often left in place because the page is frozen rather than updated.
Why the "Download Vine" text is misleading
| Element on the page | What it suggests | What it means now |
|---|---|---|
| "Download Vine to watch videos…" | An app you can install | Legacy description, no working download provided |
| "We have now placed Vine in an archived state" | Service is no longer operating | The current, authoritative status |
| "© 2018 Twitter, Inc." | Ownership and timeframe | Dates the archived page to 2018 |
The page provides no download link, no app store pointer, and no video player. If a download button or store link were live, that would be the signal to follow — but none is present.
What "archived state" means for you
- You cannot watch Vine videos on vine.co. The site is a notice page, not a functioning video network.
- You cannot download the Vine app from this page. No current download path is offered.
- The original loops are not accessible here. The archived notice does not include a video archive or playback feature.
- Anything claiming to be a current Vine download should be treated with caution, since the official page offers none.
Common points of confusion
"The page says I can download it — isn't that still true?" No. That sentence is part of the site's original description, which was not removed when the service was archived. The archived notice is the statement of current status.
"Can I still use Vine features like remixes and trends?" The description mentions remixes and trends, but these were features of the operating service. With Vine archived, they are not available through vine.co.
"Is there an official replacement linked from the page?" The page does not point to a successor service or an archive of the videos. It only offers Help, Terms, Privacy, and Attribution links.
Bottom line
If your goal is to download Vine or watch videos on it, vine.co will not let you do either. The site exists as an archived notice confirming the service is no longer running. Treat the "Download Vine to watch videos" line as a record of what Vine was, not an instruction you can act on.
