Does Axialis Offer Free Icons, and How Can I Download Them?
Updated
Yes. Axialis maintains a dedicated Free Icons area with free icon sets and free downloads, and several of its commercial icon collections also include a few free sets you can download as samples. You can reach the free material from the site navigation (Free Icons → Free Icon Sets / Free Downloads) or from each collection's own page, where free sets and sample packs are listed. The free downloads are a way to evaluate a collection before buying the full pack; the complete collections are sold through the Axialis Store.
What free icon material is available
The site organizes free material in two ways:
- A standalone free area. The navigation includes Free Icons, with Free Icon Sets and Free Downloads pages, plus an All Downloads entry.
- Free sets inside paid collections. Each collection page lists its total icon sets and, where applicable, how many of those sets are free, along with a sample pack download.
Based on the collection listings shown on the site:
| Collection | Format | Icon sets listed | Free sets noted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fluent System | Vector | 27 | 3 |
| Universal Pro | Vector | 26 | 2 |
| Office Pro | Vector | 27 | 3 |
| Fluent Pro | Vector | 25 | 2 |
| Flat Pro | Vector | 25 | 2 |
| Flat Design | Vector | 16 | 2 |
| Line Design | Vector | 16 | 2 |
| Line Pro 2026 | Vector | 20 | — (sample pack offered) |
| Pure Flat 2013 | Bitmap | 21 | — (sample pack offered) |
| Ribbons & Toolbars | Bitmap | 20 | — (sample pack offered) |
A dash means the listing did not state a free-set count; those collections still offer a sample pack download for evaluation. Treat the set counts as the site's current listing rather than a fixed promise — collections are updated over time (several are marked "New").
How to download free icons
- Go to the Free Icons section. From the main navigation, open Free Icons, then choose Free Icon Sets (curated free sets) or Free Downloads (all downloadable free material, including sample packs).
- Pick a collection or set. If you already know which style you want, open that collection's page instead — for example Fluent System or Office Pro — and look for the free sets and the Download Sample Pack link.
- Download the sample pack or free set. The download gives you a subset of the collection in its native format (vector collections are distributed as vector files; bitmap collections such as Pure Flat 2013 and Ribbons & Toolbars are bitmap).
- Check the license before shipping. Free downloads are governed by the site's licensing terms, which are separate from the paid product license. Read the Licensing Terms page before using free icons in a released product, and register products where the site asks you to.
Free icons vs. paid packs: what you actually get
- Free sets are complete small sets — useful when you need a handful of consistent icons, or to judge the drawing style, stroke weight, and grid of a collection.
- Sample packs are previews of a larger collection. They let you test icons in your actual UI (toolbars, ribbons, desktop app chrome) before committing to the full pack.
- Paid collections contain the full set count shown in the table and are purchased through the Axialis Store; volume licensing is available for teams.
A practical approach: download the sample pack for the two or three styles closest to your product's look, drop them into a mockup screen, and compare legibility at small sizes. If one style holds up, buy that collection rather than mixing free sets from several collections — mixed sources usually show up as inconsistent stroke widths and corner radii.
Related tools worth knowing about
The free icons are separate from Axialis's icon software. If you need to convert or generate assets, the site lists IconGenerator (generates assets in SVG, XAML, PNG, ICO, and ICNS), IconVectors (a vector icon editor for cleaning and editing SVG icons), and IconWorkshop (icon editing). These are separate products from the icon packs, so don't assume a pack purchase includes them — check each product's page and the store for what is bundled.
Common sticking points
- Free area vs. collection pages show different things. The Free Icons section lists curated free sets; individual collection pages list that collection's free sets and sample pack. If a set you saw elsewhere isn't in the free area, check the collection page.
- Format matters. Vector collections give you scalable files; bitmap collections (Pure Flat 2013, Ribbons & Toolbars) are raster and won't scale cleanly to high-DPI displays.
- License scope. Free to download is not the same as free to redistribute. Confirm the terms for your use case (app UI, marketing site, resale) on the Licensing Terms page before release.
