Does Hybrid support tagging, chapters, and subtitles?

Updated

Yes. Hybrid supports tagging for AVI, MKV, MP4, and MOV; chapters for MKV, MP4, and Blu-ray; and subtitles for MKV, MP4, and Blu-ray. These are built-in features of the Qt-based frontend, not add-ons, so you can handle metadata, chapter structures, and subtitle tracks inside the same job/queue workflow you use for encoding and muxing.

Tagging support

Hybrid can write tags into four container families:

Container Tagging supported
AVI Yes
MKV Yes
MP4 Yes
MOV Yes

This matters when you want title, track, or other metadata to survive the encode. Because Hybrid also supports audio/video pass-through, you can use it purely for muxing, tagging, and chapter editing without re-encoding the streams.

Chapter support

Chapter handling covers MKV, MP4, and Blu-ray, and Hybrid gives you more than one way to get chapters into a file:

  • Manual creation — build or edit the chapter list yourself.
  • Automatic creation — let Hybrid generate chapters.
  • Pass-through — carry existing chapters from the source into the output.
  • Single title/chapter encoding — encode just one title or one chapter rather than the whole disc or file.

The combination of pass-through and manual/automatic creation means you can preserve a disc's original chapter layout, or restructure it, without leaving the tool.

Subtitle support

Subtitles are supported for the same three targets: MKV, MP4, and Blu-ray. As with chapters, this fits into the same muxing and pass-through workflow, so subtitle tracks can be carried over or handled as part of the output job.

What this means in practice

If your task is to remux a source into MKV or MP4 while keeping its chapters and subtitles and adding tags, Hybrid covers all three in one pass. The pass-through capability is the key enabler here: it lets you mux, tag, and edit chapters without touching the audio or video streams.

One caveat from the project itself: Hybrid is aimed at advanced users and is explicitly not a wizard-style tool for beginners. If you are comfortable with containers and formats, the tagging, chapter, and subtitle features are available directly; if not, the project states it is not meant for you.
