Does Joana's Guides for Classic WoW Support Hardcore and Season of Discovery?

Updated

Yes. Joana's Guides explicitly supports both the Hardcore playstyle and Season of Discovery. The Classic Era leveling guides (1–60) are built to cover Classic Era modes including SoD, Hardcore, and Anniversary, and the site states that Rune quests have been integrated into the guides for Season of Discovery. Hardcore support is described as covering both Classic Era and Anniversary.

What each supported mode includes

Mode Support described on the site
Classic Era (1–60) Full leveling guides, supporting SoD, Hardcore, and Anniversary modes
Season of Discovery Rune quests integrated into the guide content
Hardcore (Classic Era and Anniversary) Guides "fully support" the Hardcore playstyle with strategies for surviving
TBC (60–70) Outland leveling, plus 12–20 Ghostlands & Bloodmyst Isle
WOTLK (70–80) Northrend leveling

Free vs. premium access

Not everything is behind the subscription. The site lists these as free starter guides:

  • Classic Era 1–12 (Azeroth)
  • Classic Era 12–15 (Tirisfal)
  • WOTLK 70–72 (Northrend)

These can be viewed on the website and come pre-loaded in the free addon. The addon itself is free and includes starter guides for levels 1–12 and 70–72.

Premium guides cover the full leveling range (1–80) and are available in two forms:

  • Monthly Everything Plan — listed at $7.95, discounted to $5.95, auto-renewing monthly
  • Everything Plan — listed at $149.95, discounted to $129.95, as a one-time payment

Premium content can be viewed on the website or loaded through the free addon.

How to check support for your specific mode

  1. Identify which version you play: Classic Era (including SoD, Hardcore, or Anniversary), TBC, or WOTLK.
  2. Match it against the coverage above — Classic Era 1–60 covers all three Classic Era modes; TBC covers 60–70; WOTLK covers 70–80.
  3. If you only want to test the format, start with the free starter guides (1–12, 12–15, or 70–72) before deciding on a premium plan.
  4. For SoD specifically, confirm the Rune quest content is present in the guide section for your level range, since the site describes Rune quests as integrated into the adventure rather than as a separate product.

Practical notes

  • The guides are authored by Joana, described as the Vanilla world record holder who reached level 60 in record time in 2006, and the site says it has been helping players level quickly since 2006.
  • Hardcore support is framed around decision-making and survival strategies, which matters because a single death ends the run in that mode.
  • The site mentions a subscription for premium access; the monthly plan auto-renews, while the Everything Plan is a one-time payment. No free trial or refund terms are stated in the available material, so treat the free starter guides as the way to evaluate before paying.
