Does The Cichlid Exchange Sell Fish Other Than Cichlids?

Updated

Yes. Despite the name, The Cichlid Exchange describes itself as offering "more than just cichlids" and states that its mission centers on "an extensive selection of premium-quality freshwater fish, including some of the most unique and rare species available." The company positions itself as a wholesale supplier for fish stores, so its catalog is aimed at retail buyers rather than individual hobbyists.

What the site says about its selection

The homepage heading reads "Over 40 years of more than just cichlids!" and the selection section is titled "The Highest Quality Fish for the Highest Quality Fish Stores." The stated scope is broad freshwater fish, not a single family. The site emphasizes balancing value and quality and says its care and attention to detail mean "quarantine concerns are eliminated," which it frames as enabling immediate returns on a buyer's investment.

Examples of non-cichlid fish listed

The homepage features a mix of sale items and new arrivals that illustrate the range beyond cichlids:

Fish Common name Type
Hemigrammus pulcher Pretty/Garnet Tetra Tetra
Nannacara anomala Golden Dwarf Cichlid Cichlid
Tanichthys albonubes White Cloud – Long Fin Minnow
Sicyopus discordipinnis Discord Goby Goby
Tylomelania sarasinorum Orange Rabbit Snail Snail
Macrognathus pancalus Yellow Tail Spiny Eel Eel

Only one of these six examples is a cichlid. The rest span tetras, minnows, gobies, snails, and eels, which supports the site's claim of a wider freshwater lineup.

Who can buy

The Cichlid Exchange is a wholesale supplier for fish stores, not a direct-to-consumer retailer. To see the full lineup and pricing, a store must register: "Register with The Cichlid Exchange, Inc. to become a wholesale customer and gain access to our fantastic lineup of the healthiest tropical fish." The site directs interested buyers to "Become a Customer" and provides a "Contact Us" option for reaching the sales team.

What to keep in mind

  • The homepage examples are a sample, not a full stock list; the complete catalog is behind wholesale registration.
  • Availability of specific species can change, so confirm current stock with the sales team.
  • The site does not publish retail pricing or consumer ordering on the pages reviewed here, consistent with its wholesale-only model.
