Fork (fork.gg) System Requirements: What You Need to Run It
Updated
Fork currently runs on Windows only. According to the official site, you need a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1, Windows 10 version 1607 or later, Windows Server 2016 or later, or Windows Server Nano version 1809 or later. Mac and Linux support is not available yet — the project says it is working on solutions to bring Fork to those platforms.
Supported operating systems
| Operating system | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Windows 8.1 | 64-bit |
| Windows 10 | Version 1607 or later, 64-bit |
| Windows Server 2016 | Or later, 64-bit |
| Windows Server Nano | Version 1809 or later, 64-bit |
Anything older than Windows 8.1, a 32-bit installation, or a non-Windows OS falls outside what the site lists as supported.
What this means in practice
- Windows 10 users: if your build is older than version 1607 (released in 2016), you would need to update Windows first. Most current Windows 10 and Windows 11 installs are well past this.
- Windows 11: not named explicitly in the requirements list, but it is a later Windows release than the versions listed. The site does not state Windows 11 support directly, so treat it as untested by the documentation rather than confirmed.
- Mac and Linux users: there is no supported path right now. The site says work is underway, but no release date or preview is given.
- Servers: Windows Server 2016+ and Server Nano 1809+ are covered, so running Fork on a Windows VPS or dedicated machine is within the stated requirements.
Other things worth knowing before you install
- Fork is described as free and open source, so there is no license cost tied to meeting the system requirements.
- It is a GUI server manager: you use it to create servers or proxy networks, manage players, run console commands, edit configuration files, and import an existing Minecraft server by pointing Fork to its location.
- The site notes Fork is undergoing a major rework, and that until it is finished only small bugfix updates are planned. If you are planning a long-term setup, factor in that the feature set may change.
Quick check before downloading
- Confirm you are on 64-bit Windows (Settings → System → About → System type).
- Confirm your Windows version meets the minimum in the table above.
- If you are on Mac or Linux, wait for the announced ports rather than attempting an unsupported install.
If your machine matches the list, you can download Fork from fork.gg and proceed. If it does not, the only documented alternative is to run it on a supported Windows machine.
