How can I find and watch WLAE-TV in my area?

Updated

WLAE-TV is New Orleans Public Television, and you can find it in three ways: use the station locator on wlae.com, rescan your TV if you're in the New Orleans broadcast area, or watch online through TheDailyMass.com, Facebook, and the station's YouTube channel. Which option applies to you depends on whether you receive the station over the air, through a cable/satellite provider, or only over the internet.

Find your local channel on wlae.com

The homepage carries a station locator labeled "FIND WLAE ON YOUR LOCAL STATION HERE." Use it to check which channel or provider carries WLAE in your market. This is the fastest path if you already subscribe to a pay-TV service and just need the channel number.

If you watch over the air, rescan your TV

WLAE has announced it is "Changing to New Broadcast Frequency," with a link for more information on the homepage. A frequency change means your TV's existing channel memory may no longer point to the station.

The general process for an over-the-air rescan:

  1. Open your TV or converter box menu and find the channel setup or "scan for channels" option.
  2. Run a full/automatic channel scan rather than a manual one, so the tuner rebuilds its channel list.
  3. When the scan finishes, check whether WLAE appears again and confirm the picture.
  4. If it doesn't appear, check the station's frequency-change page for the new channel information and rescan once more.

The expected result is that the station is stored again under its new frequency. The most common snag is running a partial scan or an add-only scan, which can leave the old entry in place without picking up the new one.

Watch online

WLAE streams several of its programs, so an internet connection is enough if you're outside the broadcast area or don't have a TV provider:

Platform What you can watch
TheDailyMass.com Daily and Sunday Mass from St. Louis Cathedral, plus Holy Week services
Facebook Mass streams
YouTube channel Documentaries such as Al Scramuzza: The Crawfish King and The Warner Way

The Daily Mass airs weekdays at 12:05 p.m. and Sundays at 11:00 a.m. from St. Louis Cathedral, and Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. from the Basilica of St. Stephen. The Holy Week schedule on TheDailyMass.com lists Palm Sunday Mass (March 29, 11:00 a.m.), Chrism Mass (March 31, 10:00 a.m.), Mass of the Last Supper (April 2, 7:00 p.m.), Good Friday Prayer Service (April 3, 3:00 p.m.), and Easter Sunday Mass (April 5, 11:00 a.m.).

Watch nationwide

The site's navigation includes a "Watch Nationwide" section, which is the entry point to check for out-of-market viewing options. If you're outside New Orleans, start there rather than with the local station locator, which is built around local carriage.

Special broadcasts worth noting

Some programming is live and time-specific, so it won't be available on demand afterward:

  • Black History Month Celebration Mass — live broadcast Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Louis Cathedral, with a "STREAM HERE" link. Celebrant is Rev. Tony Ricard, with music by the Mass Gospel Choir under Richard Cheri.
  • Documentary airing — Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.; the station notes a 2025 Suncoast Emmy win for Best Cultural Documentary.

If a program matters to you, check the air date and use the stream link at the scheduled time rather than assuming it will be posted later.
