How Community Setups and Setup Sharing Work on Multi-Monitor Calculator
Updated
Multi-Monitor Calculator lets you browse prebuilt community setups for inspiration, generate a shareable link to your own layout, and submit your setup for a chance to be featured on the site. All three actions live in the same setup-management area: the prebuilt list is the starting point, the Generate Link button handles sharing, and Submit Setup sends your layout in for review. You can also reset or create a new setup without losing work, as long as you use the right control.
Browsing Prebuilt Community Submissions
The site opens with a gallery of ready-made setups you can load and explore. The page evidence lists these prebuilt entries:
| Prebuilt Setup | Likely Use Case |
|---|---|
| Kevin Vandy's Setup | General reference layout |
| Dev Command Center | Software development |
| Dev Command Center (Bigger) | Expanded development workspace |
| Video Editor's Dream | Video editing |
| Photo Editor's Sidekick | Photo editing |
| Ultimate Racing Sim | Racing simulation |
| Stock Trader | Trading workstation |
| Pretentious IT Guy | General IT work |
| Poor College Student | Budget-minded layout |
| 6K Ultrawide | Single ultrawide display |
| 4 Monitor Productivity | Productivity |
| Toys | General showcase |
| 6 Monitor Engineering Workstation | Engineering |
| Laptop With Friends | Laptop plus external monitors |
To use one, select it from the list and it loads into the workspace. From there you can drag and rearrange monitors, zoom in and out, and adjust the available desk width and height to see how the layout fits your space. The prebuilt setups are useful as starting points: load one, then modify it rather than building from scratch.
Sharing a Setup With a Link
When your layout is ready, use Generate Link to create a URL that reproduces the setup. The site copies the link to your clipboard and confirms with "URL Copied to Clipboard!" You can then send it to friends or open it on another device. The link captures the current arrangement, so the recipient sees the same monitor layout you built.
This is the fastest way to compare layouts with someone else or to move a plan between devices without rebuilding it.
Submitting Your Setup for Featuring
If you want your layout considered for the prebuilt gallery, use Submit Setup. The submission form asks for:
- Setup Name
- Setup Description
- What makes this setup unique?
After you submit, the site confirms with "Your Monitor Setup Submission Was Received." Submissions may be featured as prebuilt setups for other visitors, so a clear name and a description explaining the layout's purpose give it the best chance of being useful to others.
Resetting or Starting Over Without Losing Work
The reset flow includes a safeguard. Choosing to reset back to the default setup triggers a confirmation: "Are you sure you want to reset back to the default setup? All progress will be lost!" You can cancel with No, Cancel or proceed with Yes, Reset.
If you want to keep your current layout and start something new, the confirmation screen points you to the alternative: click the + button in the top navigation bar to create a new setup instead. That preserves your existing work while giving you a blank canvas.
Practical Workflow
- Load a prebuilt setup close to what you want.
- Rearrange monitors and adjust desk dimensions until the layout fits.
- Use Generate Link to save or share the result.
- If the layout is worth showcasing, submit it with a name and description.
- To experiment further without losing the current plan, create a new setup with the + button rather than resetting.
