How do I log in or create an account on Gentoo's Bugzilla?

Updated

Go to bugs.gentoo.org and use the New Account link to register, the Log In link to sign in with existing credentials, or Forgot Password if you need to reset a forgotten password. All three links appear in the top navigation bar of the main page, alongside Home, New, Browse, Search, Reports, and Requests. You need an account to file bugs, comment on existing reports, and track requests; browsing and searching bugs is available without signing in.

Creating a new account

  1. Open bugs.gentoo.org.
  2. Click New Account in the top navigation bar.
  3. Complete the registration form with a valid email address and the requested details.
  4. Submit the form and follow the confirmation instructions sent to your email.

Once registered, your account lets you file new bugs, add comments, and manage requests. Before you file anything, read the Gentoo Bug Reporting Guide, which the main page links to directly. Gentoo also states an AI policy on that page: do not include any work from AI in your bug reports.

Logging in

  1. Open bugs.gentoo.org.
  2. Click Log In in the top navigation bar.
  3. Enter your email address and password, then submit.

After a successful login you can file bugs, comment, and track requests. If you only want to read or search existing reports, you can do that without logging in.

Resetting a forgotten password

  1. Open bugs.gentoo.org.
  2. Click Forgot Password next to the login fields.
  3. Enter the email address associated with your account.
  4. Follow the reset instructions Bugzilla sends to that address.

What each entry point does

Link Purpose When to use it

Log In Sign in with existing credentials You already have an account
Forgot Password Start a password reset You have an account but cannot sign in

Common snags

  • No account yet? Use New Account, not Log In — the login form only works for existing accounts.
  • Password not working? Use Forgot Password rather than creating a second account.
  • Automated access? If you run a spider, bot, or other automated process against Gentoo's Bugzilla, read the Bot Policy linked on the main page before proceeding.
  • Reporting a bug? Read the Gentoo Bug Reporting Guide first, and leave AI-generated content out of your report per Gentoo's AI policy.
