How Race the Clock Mode Works on Maze Toys
Updated
Race the Clock is a timed challenge mode on Maze Toys where you complete as many mazes as possible within a time limit you choose. You pick both a difficulty tier and a duration before starting, so the mode scales from a one-minute sprint to a full hour-long session.
The two choices you make
Before a run begins, you select:
- A difficulty tier — Teensy, Mini, or Medium.
- A time limit — the number of minutes you want the run to last.
The tier controls how large or complex each individual maze is. The time limit controls how long the whole session runs. Together they set the pace: a short limit on a small tier means fast, frequent solves; a long limit on a larger tier means fewer, slower solves.
Available tiers and time limits
| Tier | Time options (minutes) |
|---|---|
| Teensy | 1, 3, 5, 10 |
| Mini | 3, 5, 10, 30 |
| Medium | 5, 10, 15, 60 |
A few things worth noting from this layout:
- Teensy is the only tier that offers a 1-minute option, making it the shortest possible run.
- Medium is the only tier that goes up to 60 minutes, so it supports the longest sessions.
- The tiers overlap heavily — 5 and 10 minutes are available on all three, so you can hold the time constant and vary only the difficulty if you want to compare how you perform.
How a run plays out
Once the timer starts, you solve mazes back to back. Each completed maze counts toward your total, and the run ends when the clock reaches zero. The goal is simply to finish as many as you can before time runs out — there is no separate win/lose state beyond your own count.
This is why the tier and time pairing matters so much. A Teensy maze at 1 minute rewards speed and quick recognition. A Medium maze at 60 minutes rewards endurance and sustained focus. The mode description frames it exactly this way: "play it short and fast or long and slow."
Choosing a setup
- Want a quick break? Teensy at 1 or 3 minutes.
- Want a balanced session? Mini at 5 or 10 minutes.
- Want a real test of stamina? Medium at 30 or 60 minutes.
- Want to compare difficulty fairly? Hold the time at 5 or 10 minutes and move across Teensy, Mini, and Medium.
What Race the Clock is not
Race the Clock is separate from the site's other modes. It is not the same as Faultless, which forbids backtracking and wall hits and sends you back to the start on a mistake. It is also distinct from the untimed Just Maze, Corn Maze, and Circular Maze categories, which let you solve at your own pace. Race the Clock is specifically the mode where a countdown is the point.
If you want a timed challenge with a fixed, self-chosen window and a running count of completed mazes, pick a tier and a duration from the table above and start the clock.
