How the Choose & Cut Christmas Tree Process Works at The Ice Farm
Updated
The Ice Farm runs a choose-and-cut Christmas tree operation where you walk the 34-acre property, pick your own tree, and cut it yourself with a hand saw the farm provides. If you'd rather not cut, pre-cut trees of many varieties are available, cut fresh each weekend. Tree carts and tree sleds are on hand to move your tree from the field to the barn. For 2026, tree sales open Friday, November 27th and run through Sunday, December 13th, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, at 124 Clinton Road, Jordan, NY 13080-9785.
What the Choose & Cut Process Involves
The farm describes the experience as walking the property, choosing your own "special" live tree, and cutting it to celebrate the season together. The practical steps:
- Arrive during open hours. Tree sales for 2026 run November 27th through December 13th, Friday–Sunday only, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The farm notes it is open the day after Thanksgiving.
- Walk the 34-acre field and pick your tree. All trees are custom sheared, which the farm says enhances the natural shape and makes decorating easier.
- Use a farm-provided hand saw to cut it. You don't need to bring your own saw — hand saws are supplied for the choose-and-cut.
- Move the tree with a cart or sled. Tree carts and tree sleds are available to transport trees from the field to the barn.
If You Don't Want to Cut Your Own
Pre-cut trees of many varieties are also available. These are cut fresh for each weekend, so you're not choosing from trees that have been sitting for weeks.

The farm also hand-makes designer wreaths in ring sizes from 10″ to 48″ (20″ to 6′ in diameter), plus novelties like candy canes, crosses, cemetery pieces, table toppers, centerpieces, mailbox huggies, swags, sprays, and kissing balls — useful if you want decorations in the same trip.
Practical Notes Before You Go
- Plan around the weekend-only schedule. The season is short — roughly three weekends in 2026 — and the farm is only open Friday through Sunday, so a weekday visit won't work.
- Dress for field conditions. You'll be walking an outdoor 34-acre property to select and cut a tree, so footwear and clothing suited to uneven, possibly muddy or snowy ground matter.
- You don't need to bring a saw, but if you have a preferred hand saw, the farm's setup doesn't prevent you from using your own.
- Budget for the tree plus extras. Wreaths and novelties are sold alongside trees; the site links to a pricing page, so check current prices there rather than assuming.
- The same property also does ice sculptures. The Ice Farm is owned and operated by ice sculptor Stan Kolonko and takes custom ice carving orders year-round for weddings, banquets, corporate functions, and other events, including corporate logo carvings and single- and double-block carvings. In 2021, Three B's Tree Farm became part of The Ice Farm, which is why the tree operation continues under the Ice Farm name.
If your goal is a traditional family outing where you pick and cut your own tree, the choose-and-cut option fits. If you want speed or a specific variety without field work, the pre-cut trees — restocked fresh each weekend — are the simpler route.
