How to Access or Order UNT Oral History Interview Transcripts
Updated
The UNT Oral History Program makes nearly all of its interview recordings available as transcripts, which are edited, bound, and archived in Willis Library. You can view them in person through UNT Special Collections, search the collection online, order copies of transcripts, or visit the Oral History office in the General Academic Building (GAB), Suite 107, on the lower level.
Ways to Access Transcripts
1. Search the collection online
Start with the Program's collection search to identify interviews relevant to your research. The collection is strong in:
- World War II history, including over 1,000 interviews with WWII veterans
- Texas political history
- Texas business history
- History of the New Deal in Texas
- Civil rights history
- Immigration history
You can browse by last name or use the search tools on the site. The collection is also listed in the Texas Oral History Locator Database (TOLD).
2. View transcripts in person
Edited and bound transcripts are archived in Willis Library and are available to scholarly researchers and members of the general public through UNT Special Collections. This is the route to take if you need to consult full transcripts on site.
3. Order interview transcripts
If you cannot visit in person, the Program provides a way to order transcripts. Use the collection page to find details on individual interviews and the ordering process.
4. Visit the Oral History office
For in-person help, go to the Oral History office:
- Location: General Academic Building (GAB), Suite 107, lower level
- Address: 1155 Union Circle #305430, Denton, TX 76203
- Phone: 940-565-2549

Key Details to Keep in Mind
- Nearly all interview recordings are transcribed, so most interviews should have a transcript available.
- Transcripts are edited and bound before archiving, so what you view is a finished document rather than a raw recording.
- The Program is affiliated with the UNT Department of History and supported by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and UNT Libraries.
- Donations help support the Program's work, but the page does not state any fees for access or ordering, so confirm costs directly with the Program.
For specific interviews, collections, and ordering details, use the Program's collection page or contact the office by phone.
