How to Apply for Admission or Check Admission Status on the KNUST Website

Updated

On knust.edu.gh, both tasks start from the top navigation bar: Apply Now is the entry point for submitting an application, and Check Admissions Status is the entry point for tracking an existing application. The site's navigation also lists Admissions Status, Fees Schedule, Students Portal, Library, HelpDesk, and E-Learning Centre in the same top bar. Use these links as your starting points, then follow the instructions shown on the destination pages — the site itself is the authority on current requirements and deadlines.

Applying for admission

  1. Open https://www.knust.edu.gh in a browser.
  2. In the top navigation bar, select Apply Now.
  3. Follow the application instructions presented on the page you land on. The site does not publish the full application form on the homepage, so the specific steps, required documents, and fee details appear only after you enter the application flow.

Before you start

  • Check the fee schedule first. The site publishes a Fees Schedule section with year-specific pages, including a 2026/2027 Academic Year Fees Schedule and schedules for 2025/2026, 2024/2025, 2023/2024, and 2022/2023. Reviewing the relevant year's schedule helps you understand costs before committing to an application.
  • Confirm programme options. The Departments & Programmes section lists all academic departments, and the Colleges menu covers Science, Engineering, Agriculture & Natural Resources, Art and Built Environment, Health Sciences, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Use these to identify the programme you intend to apply for.
  • Note the academic calendar. The site hosts Academic Calendar pages for 2025/2026, 2024/2025, and 2023/2024. These give the university's own timeline for the academic year.

Checking your admission status

  1. Go to https://www.knust.edu.gh.
  2. Select Check Admissions Status in the top bar (an Admissions Status link also appears in the navigation).
  3. Enter the details requested on the status page and review the result shown.

If the status page does not recognize your details, the HelpDesk link in the top bar is the site's designated support channel. The Students Portal is a separate entry intended for enrolled students rather than applicants, so use it only after you have been admitted and registered.

Practical tips

  • Use the official domain. Start from knust.edu.gh rather than search results or forwarded links, so you land on the current application and status pages.
  • Don't assume dates. The site lists fee schedules and academic calendars by year, but application windows and entry requirements are stated on the application pages themselves. Read those pages rather than relying on secondhand summaries.
  • Keep your application reference details. You will need them when returning to the status checker.
  • Check the distance-learning route if relevant. The Institute of Distance Learning appears in the site's quick links and may suit applicants who cannot study on campus.

For anything the public pages don't answer — such as a specific programme's entry requirements or a status that appears incorrect — contact the university through the HelpDesk or the contact details in the Registrar's Offices and Contact Us sections.
